They spent 79 million on what?!

So on this lovely Friday, Nasa has scheduled to crash a rocket into the moon. Yeah this is no joke, It's Science. They're hoping to figure out whether the moon has ice in its perpetually dark craters. Ok, don't spaz, the rocket isn't going to blow up the moon or anything. The rocket was made to mimic a natural asteriod that hits the moon on a reg. It'll leave a 2meter deep hole in an already swiss-cheese-like-moon.

Initially I was fine with this. These Nasa nerds have been itching to know whether the moon had water on it for ages, fair enough. But to spend 79 Million U.S Dollars for a fucking science experiment is just whack. I mean it's not even a cool science experiment, it's a 2 meter hole in the already shot up moon! Let's just agree that it's made out of cheese and hand me over the money. I bet I could barter for a small country for that price.

Who knew?



Yesterday nat attack, our friend Anna and I ventured out to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) for the first time. Once we entered we were totally blown away by the overall beauty... of the guys that were there. I mean sure the art work was beautiful and what not, but the phenomena of freaking gorgeous guys left, right, and center, is just something worth mentioning. AND the real beauty here is that you don't have to be caking it like betty crocker to enjoy the luxuries of such wonderful eye candy because the AGO is free after 6 on Wednesdays. I mean WHO KNEW? Seriously who ever withheld the info on the whereabouts of such massive amounts of hot fellas should suffer for the sin of hording them all.

Ok well that's just something to think about. Here are a couple infield pictures of us. Would have taken pictures of some of the art but nat attack was super paranoid that we'd be kicked out if we did.

Me and sleep don't hang out anymore

Subsequently my face has permanently taken shape as such in figure 1. I could be sleeping right now, but right before the final exam I had 4 hours a go, I had a lapse in judgment and drank a nice venti double shot on ice. The equivalent to 5 shots of espresso, nice.

So, since I've had no time to sleep with exams/work/living. I've been taking naps whenever I can. Came across an article that spouted random handy facts on the sleep cycle.
things I found helpful:

(1) If you don't limit your naps to about 45 minutes or less, you'll fall into slow-wave sleep, killing the good effects of napping you're trying to reap.

(2) NASA research says taking a nap for approximately 26 minutes can increase overall alertness 54%. Yet you have to wonder how one can really measure overall awareness percent wise...

(3) Caffeine takes about 20-30 minutes to kick in, within this time take a 20 cat nap. When you wake up the coffee has probably kicked in and the rapid eye movement during the cat nap further boosts sensory processes.

so instead of studying...

i have an exam at 11:30AM.

but uhm...instead of studying (STUDYING! BAH! who does that?), i`m searching for a new phone.

yes, i realize i have a phone already - my beloved baeley, my motorola Q9H - but baeley`s broken. not necessarily to the point of unusable, but with a broken spacebar, it makes typing very hard. & we all know i love text messaging (if you don`t know that, you should know that).

so i`m searching for a new smartphone.

my best friend wants me to get a blackberry, which i would do, but of blackberries, i really only like his phone - the bold - & i don`t necessarily want to get the same phone as him. so what to do? what to do?

tell me, readers, what should i get?

Failsafe night



Forewarning: this post is just built to fail since all words are unfit in describing the indescribable events that went down last night. The words awesome, epic, stupendous, sublime, fall terribly short in explaining the time between 7-12AM on November 13, 2008. Lives were saved, asses were shook and only good times were to be had. Usually I'd erupt in a rant describing how bad my grammar is by now but honestly NOTHING makes sense anymore other than Andrew McMahon's voice.

So instead of further killing last nights experience with words I'll bestow upon you photographic proof of Andrew's awesomeness.

Notice the glow left on megs face right after the concert, notice it still being there 20 minutes after. She never stopped smiling in the 20 minutes in between the latter two pictures being taken. HECK she's still smiling as you read this, for she was touched by divinity in the form of a Jack's Mannequin concert.

Confession of a Serial (Time) Killer


It's the busiest time of the academic year and here I go frittering away my time. It really is hard for me to turn down a good time with friends or inane acts like painting my nails, making music playlists, counting how many steps it takes to get places. When I finally get my ass to the computer I'm distracted by sites like these:

Sleeveface - full of people augmenting parts of their bodies anywhich way with record sleeves to create an illusion. 15 minutes wasted, easy.

Contemporary Mix of Genius - This blog title explains what it's about, Pure Genius of the Contemporary sort. Purge what you've learned from dusty old textbooks and enlighten yourself with CMOG.

Cool hunter - A site full of bad ass styles and trends from all over the world.

Sidereel - If the above sites haven't RPG-ed my time to hell, this site surely will. This is where I get my tv show and movie fix. Just watched a season of the UK office and "the science of sleep".

Well I can continue forever on the sites I routinely visit, but along with my great talent at avoiding school work, I was gifted with a short attention span & terrible grammer. So here's a little playlist dealing with time. What's a Steph post without a themed music playlist?

Dear Rachel Evan Woods,
Get yourself your own look. It's one thing to take Dita Von Teeses Ex left overs, but to attempt to own her look just makes you look foolish.

Rachel, to put it simply, you just look like an assclown... The red lipstick, on you at least, makes me reminiscent of ronald mcdonald. And the pose has me asking, do you need help unclipping your training bra? Well while you struggle with that, let Dita show you how it's done.

"you`ve got it goin on"

i sit here, hiding away from the world & yes, that`s right, playing hooky (don`t follow my example), BUT...holding a cute little card with five tubes of perfume attached to it. on the bottom of the card are cute little caricatures in super-deformed anime-style. the tubes proudly display, in different colours: LOVE, LIL ANGEL, G, MUSIC, & BABY.

super cute.

they are my cute little samples, & i`m dying to try them all out, all at once, in a fragranced-psychedelical (yes, i made that term up) whirlwind of awesome.

but i won`t.

instead, i give you...THREE FACTS OF THE DAY.

i)jae learned html from working on an asian avenue page back in grade seven, eight & nine. by grade ten, "AA" was obsolete.

ii) capsaicin, the stuff that makes peppers spicy, is used as a natural lip plumper (careful not to use too much). try using regular ground pepper at first for a little pout. some people actually use a bottled form of dilute capsaicin & dab a little on their lips. mint also works too, but not as well.

iii) perfume should be dabbed onto the parts of your body where major arteries can be found, because those areas heat up the fastest & therefore your body`s natural oils will mix with the perfume easier & release the fragrance into the air. elbows, behind the knee & of course, the neck, are all places where one wouldn`t normally think to dab perfume...but try it out for yourself. other places include: behind the ears, in cleavage, the small of the back, the nape of the neck (underneath your ponytail), the ankles & the belly button.


& of course, why would i leave you without a song of the day to go with my three facts?

"i never seem to get a lot"

i`m so sorry, i lied about the whole posting three new facts every day thing.
& the song of the day.

gosh i suck.

truth is, i think my immune system has been taking a beating, & i`ve spent my days at home, coughing my lungs out & buried under covers, only surfacing for a few minutes at a time.

that is definitely no excuse for not posting!

my glasses/frames collection has been a hit with the dance team - as evidenced by the photo below - & i`m proud to say that i will continue to amass them, regardless of the flak i`m receiving from some people (aka my best friend, who continues to bombard me with annoying insults that they are 'not cool' - psssh please...like he would know).

FACTS OF THE DAY:
i) when baking with marijuana, do not put the whole load of marijuana in. it is much stronger baked than smoked.
ii) pink is a fatiguing colour. this is why sports teams will paint the visitor`s locker room pink. (i also think that it`s just because the colour is so energetic yet not energizing like yellow. or maybe i just like yellow.)
iii) mcdonald`s mc-chicken sauce is actually just mayonnaise.

& now, for our feature presentation...

okay, so...we suck. we haven`t posted theme tuesday pictures yet, which we are definitely aware of. but have no fear - we will get to them.

so why am i posting today? because...i`m in my biology class (yes, i took a science elective! :O) & i`m bored out of my mind. steph is here next to me - she has no other classes today - & we`re kind of bored & watching everyone ask really dumb questions...if you`re a believer in the whole "there is no such thing as a dumb question" thing, then fine - we`re listening to dumb people asking questions that are supposedly not dumb.

i am pleased to be the one to introduce yet ANOTHER segment on aSoS. (yeah, then again, i`m always the one who comes up with new stuff for the blog...but this time, it hasn`t even been run by steph!)

you know how people always say, "you learn something new everyday" ?
well, i can vouch that i do: ...the weather. definitely new everyday. & alright, it isn`t exactly something *new*, but it`s my way of validating the above statement.
are you like me? wanting something NEW for real??? okay, well...i introduce:
THREE JAE FACTS OF THE DAY
(yes, because jae is more than just clothes & music & sickness (yes, i am still sick. sigh.); she has smarts, brains, experiences!!!)

so what`s it gonna be like? well, basically, three random facts every day (yes, every single day). for sure, one of them will be a random fact about jae - an embarrassing story, a thought i had, SOMETHING, anything - that i think you might enjoy knowing. yeah, i`m baring my soul on the internet for your enjoyment. rip me to shreds. (not literally.)
the rest of the facts will just be things i find interesting.

the other thing we`ll be incorporating more is some kind of 'song of the day'. yes, we do post heavily about what we listen to, but we`ll post a song every day too.
in this way, at least, there will be a post every day (though not always laden with pictures; my apologies). FOR YOUR READING PLEASURE!

so today`s three facts:
i) i never found out that irons actually were hot until grade four (that`s age nine). yeah, i should have known from the steam that was coming from it - steam, i knew, was hot - but i never actually found out until one day i decided to press my pinky against it. next thing i knew? blister. not fun. took me til age nine to learn that. not too bright, i am.

ii) when counting in binary, the last number will always alternate between 0 & 1. the second last number will always be in the pattern of 0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 1...

[bonus: 0-10 in binary: 0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110, 111, 1000, 1001, 1010]

iii) in hexadecimal, the first six letters of the alphabet are used to represent 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15.

[bonus: 0-20 in hexadecimal: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14]

[why do i have so many math facts, when i`m in psychology & not even taking any math classes? i had to help a friend with his discrete math homework, & ended up learning binary & hexadecimal for it.]

- i`m learning this song on the guitar (trust me, it`s easy to pick, but then to sing along with it...you get messed up easily), & it`s stuck in my head because i`ve been listening to it over & over & over...it`s a great song, just listen to it & LOVE IT!


okay, well...feedback on this? i know there haven`t been many comments lately because our posting is sporadic, & we apologize for that, but we`re trying to get things back up & running.
