Me and sleep don't hang out anymore

figure 1. restless steph during exam time

Subsequently my face has permanently taken shape as such in figure 1. I could be sleeping right now, but right before the final exam I had 4 hours a go, I had a lapse in judgment and drank a nice venti double shot on ice. The equivalent to 5 shots of espresso, nice.

So, since I've had no time to sleep with exams/work/living. I've been taking naps whenever I can. Came across an article that spouted random handy facts on the sleep cycle.
things I found helpful:

(1) If you don't limit your naps to about 45 minutes or less, you'll fall into slow-wave sleep, killing the good effects of napping you're trying to reap.

Figure 2. noob guide to napping

(2) NASA research says taking a nap for approximately 26 minutes can increase overall alertness 54%. Yet you have to wonder how one can really measure overall awareness percent wise...

(3) Caffeine takes about 20-30 minutes to kick in, within this time take a 20 cat nap. When you wake up the coffee has probably kicked in and the rapid eye movement during the cat nap further boosts sensory processes.

To see more on sleep and stuff click on fig 2. Or geek out and google some articles. HAH! finally feeling the caffiene wearing off. Off to bed I go...

Argh, me too! I have been getting less than my ideal beauty sleep lately and my days just seem to drag on and on... :S

The past 2 years I have been getting this "line of fatigue." It looks like it's just the crease from the sheets leaving an imprint on my face, but if anyone really paid attention they would notice it's always the exact same size in the exact same place. Grrr.

Nice post...my favorite thing to do in life is Sleep!!! But like many people around I'm lucky just to get 6-7 hours a night. Throw in there the fact that my girlfriend is Spanish (Spaniards are were known for staying up late and eating late) and you have an explosive/tired combination...how do I do it then??? I don't...I'm constantly tired and going to the gym and eating healthy doesn't seem to work...good luck to the rest of you!!!

I haven't had a good night of sleep in like two weeks. I'm so angsty, it's probably all my emoness, but it could also be repressed guilt from scumming strangers on the street.

ps.

YOU ARE SO ON! (for the bet that is)

Naps never work out for me. I never exactly wake up until the next morning.

Doesn't mean that I'll stop trying though! After all, if NASA says it works, that's the next reason I'm using to stay out of class.

That's quite useful information! I can never limit my naps to less than an hour - usually they last two or three hours :/

I tried napping today so that I could study like crazy this evening. Unfortunately the alarm didn't go off and it's now 11:20pm and I have an exam at 9 in the morning that I haven't started studying for.

But it was a GREAT NAP.
(awesome blog btw!)
