what is this?
jae is posting?
are you serious???
well, yes, i`m serious. i haven`t posted in a while (life caught up & i decided to take advantage of the fact that there are more people on our blogging team), but here it is : proof jae is not dead.
somehow, i seemed to have missed the part where summer stopped & autumn began.
it`s just..here.
not that i`m complaining. i do love me some autumn.
aside from it being the season of my birthday, it`s also the best season to dress for!
as soon as i could, i began to lust for headgear.
hats, hoodies, scarves, etc...
i mean, who doesn`t like headgear? my hair is in that transitional stage of not-too-short, not-too-long, not-cooperating-but-getting-along so headgear is a blessing on those days when only my bangs are listening.
[note to self: MUST GET HAIR CUT.]
[cream & gold oversized beret: h&m] i love this hat. it was under ten dollars, super cute & goes with my clothes perfectly. plus it`s lightweight so it doesn`t get hot wearing it, but it keeps me warm.
[black tommy hilfiger toque: stolen from brother] this hat used to be my brother`s, but he refuses to wear it so i took it. it`s warm & would be good in winter.
[purple hoodie: stitches] i love hoodies. love them love them love them. & i love to pose too. such a good combo.]
[scarf: h&m] steph bought me this for my birthday last year, & i still love it off. i`ve never worn a scarf like that before, but i think it looks pretty good.
[scarf: ardene] this picture is actually from summertime, but i thought i`d include it because it`s interesting. i never wear headbands like that, so i thought it would be kinda cool to dress like a hippy. feels so seventies.
my cousin & the friend who fashioned a hat out of a plastic bag for him. isn`t it cool? & it could actually be pretty functional.
regine, with her taekwondo belt wrapped around her head. yes, it counts as headgear (although not really practical for everyday use). she did a dance wearing it & it didn`t fall off. it was cute & hilariously funny to watch.
my best friend, neil, with his hood on (pleading "bad hair day"). see, hoods`r`us. & also, does he not have the straightest teeth ever? he makes me wish i`d gotten braces when i was little.
cute little itty bitty baby. isn`t she adorable? she`s the daughter of a family friend, & this dress was absolutely cute. [note: i put her hood on her head for her, expressly for this photo...she got annoyed immediately & pulled it off. but still, cute nonetheless!]
verdict? headgear = awesome.
theme tuesday
this week`s theme is HARAJUKU LOVERS, based off the popular gwen stefani fragrances.
each of the SOS team has chosen a different fragrance to represent, so stay tuned for pics of that! :) & feel free to join & send us a link or a photo of you in your harajuku lovers outfit!
oh & before i forget : this is an exclusive offer for canadian residents (i know, i apologize to all of you who live outside of canada! i didn`t make up the rules...), but i believe it ends on the thirty-first so i would hurry & sign up soon.
alright everyone, i`m off!
i`ll present you with random facts...sometime tomorrow maybe.

ps: sorry that all the photos are really crappy quality - i still can`t find my petey (my camera) & so i`m stuck using baeley (my cellphone) for photos. well, anything`s better than nothing, right?

EDIT
never mind. it`s working fine now. seriously, that was weird.
HERE ARE MY THEME TUESDAY PICS! (finally!)
they were taken with my motorola q cellphone camera, so they`re all 2-megapixelly, but still...here they are, in all their glory.
i got to "be" jenny (okay, not be...but you know what i mean) for theme tuesday.
of course, what does that entail?
-colour clash love
-bright tights
-a sort of 'high street meets high fashion' type of look
we all know jenny isn`t rich like the rest of the UESers, but she tries her best to always look like she belongs (we know she does). she makes a lot of her clothes, & i wish i could have hand-crafted what i was wearing, but...no. sadly not.
[serena van der woodsen, blair waldorf & jenny humphrey. only pay attention to jenny in this photo. this was the best i could find to showcase what i was kinda thinking.]
i look kinda dead, but that`s because it was pretty late at night. i realize now that i matched the bed. i didn`t know that.
oh, don`t i look cool with my cellphone? :b that was sarcasm, by the way. i love my cellphone though!
pink legs! :D
a close up on all the little bits, so you can see it all.
[white hat, h&m; purple trapeze jacket, stitches outlet; turquoise cardigan, pacific mall; dark green tanktop, suzy shier; black, white & grey polkadot-print bubble skirt, value village (BNWT from costa blanca!); fuschia tights, ardenes; black & grey flats, ardenes; black NYC strand tote (not pictured), the new york city strand; black patent leather maryjanes heels (not pictured), payless shoe source.]
on a random side note: i actually did not wear those flats. i wore my black patent heels. they were hawt.
oh, i watched nick & norah -
for those of you who are planning to watch it, WATCH IT NOW.
it`s a really good movie.
i must say that if only michael cera had played the left-handed guitar...i woulda melted & drooled all over.
because he didn`t, i stayed pretty intact. but still.
enjoy your weekend, loveries<3

Theme Tuesday (on this lovely friday) pt. 3: Blair & Serena

So Natasha got Ms. Waldorf as her gossip girl muse. Key to Blair's style:
- keeps it classic.
- include the occasional pop of color
- add a girly detail
Here's a picture of Natasha's take of Blair's style. Keeping it classic: a blue and white blazer, with an orange bag to add a spout of color and heels to give it that necessary girly detail.
As for me, I got Serena. She has this cool boho-chic look, that seems effortless, like she just threw something on and naturally looks fantastic. In that sense, her style is often compared to Kate Moss, especially with her bits of rocker chick edge. And well, it was definitely difficult to replicate.

I honestly don't think I pulled it off. Thoughts?
XOXO,
Megs
P.S. Sorry for the cramped photo and uh, not really being able to see my outfit in all it's glory. I bought a new camera, and am still trying to figure out it's features and such - the self-timer I figured out after the theme...

i present to you ... well ... here, look for yourselves :
my camera, unfortunately, has gone AWOL again.
& my cell phone, which houses my current outfit photos due to the disappearance of the regular camera, refuses to connect to my laptop, leaving me stranded photo-less.
i would restart the laptop in an attempt to make it work, but it`s 11:30pm (my bedtime) & i have a bio midterm tomorrow that i haven`t even begun to study for (literally!) so ...
i leave you with a hand-drawn preview of my outfit :)
photos to come! <3
love you with a million girly loves,

Theme Tuesday pt2: Vanessa
Yesterday we had a draw of the straws on which character we'd be channeling today. I got Vanessa, the aspiring filmmaker from the lower east side. key elements in her look:
Diamond hipster boy - Washington social club
With you - The Subways
Night of the living dead - Tilly and the wall

g-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s
Announcing this week's Theme Tuesday...
GOSSIP GIRL!
At SoS, we pretty much love Gossip Girl. Admittedly, it isn't that great a show story-wise (you have to agree, they're all kind of the same, taking after the original Beverly Hills 90210 I've heard), but fashion-wise, Gossip Girl is fantastic. It's a total trend-setter, and I personally tune in as often as I can just to watch the clothes. I really think it's the best-dressed show on TV right now. I recently found out too that the Gossip Girl stylist is the same one who did Sex and the City, so no wonder everyone looks so amazing.
Check out The CW's Gossip Girl Style Guide for inspiration too :)
So this week, dress up all put-together with bows like Blair, with colourful tights like Jenny, or in a cool boho-chic mix like Serena...just choose the character of your choice - they all have a great style about them. And, if you happen to be dressed up like Serena and find a Dan look-a-like, definitely let me know!
XOXO,
Megs
P.S. Why not have some Gossip Girl music to listen to, for the sake of the theme?
Aqualung - Something to Believe In
Albert Hammond Jr. - Hard to Live in This City
and, if you watch the show, you might recognize this:

"you`ve got it goin on"
i sit here, hiding away from the world & yes, that`s right, playing hooky (don`t follow my example), BUT...holding a cute little card with five tubes of perfume attached to it. on the bottom of the card are cute little caricatures in super-deformed anime-style. the tubes proudly display, in different colours: LOVE, LIL ANGEL, G, MUSIC, & BABY.
super cute.
they are my cute little samples, & i`m dying to try them all out, all at once, in a fragranced-psychedelical (yes, i made that term up) whirlwind of awesome.
but i won`t.
instead, i give you...THREE FACTS OF THE DAY.
i)jae learned html from working on an asian avenue page back in grade seven, eight & nine. by grade ten, "AA" was obsolete.
ii) capsaicin, the stuff that makes peppers spicy, is used as a natural lip plumper (careful not to use too much). try using regular ground pepper at first for a little pout. some people actually use a bottled form of dilute capsaicin & dab a little on their lips. mint also works too, but not as well.
iii) perfume should be dabbed onto the parts of your body where major arteries can be found, because those areas heat up the fastest & therefore your body`s natural oils will mix with the perfume easier & release the fragrance into the air. elbows, behind the knee & of course, the neck, are all places where one wouldn`t normally think to dab perfume...but try it out for yourself. other places include: behind the ears, in cleavage, the small of the back, the nape of the neck (underneath your ponytail), the ankles & the belly button.
& of course, why would i leave you without a song of the day to go with my three facts?
in honor of the fragrance samples...
GWEN STEFANI, 4 in the Morning

i love how glam gwen looks. she is amazing.
PS. a note about theme tuesday this week:
we didn`t dress up yesterday. tomorrow (thursday) is the one year death anniversary of somebody very close to me, & we decided that in her honor, we would wear yellow on that day (yellow is her colour). so...thursday, 25 september...wear YELLOW please. anything yellow.
kisses & hiding,

"i want something else to get me through this."
we are quickly hitting the end of this wonderful time period we call summer-time. was it really four months ago that we were celebrating the end of our examinations?
i guess it has been.
well, with fall comes many things : school, homework, job-searching for a part-time job that fits just right into the schedule, theme tuesdays, thrifting, more blog posts written during class instead of taking notes...
today, i give you...outfit pictures! i know, it`s exciting to finally see photos.
they`re not much; my outfit was pretty plain, but the dress i was wearing made me feel pretty thin (when i wasn`t wearing the sweater) (i should have taken photos without the sweater, but it never occurred to me...) because the waist hit just so right where the thinnest bit on my torso is, and my belly fat was hidden by the skirt.
so there it is, in all it`s glory. the bag is the awesome eggplant coloured one that i posted about before. i`m still in love with it.
i cut my feet out of the photo because i wasn`t wearing shoes (in the house, we aren`t allowed to) - i wore my green shoes with the one-inch hidden wedge. i`m not big on wedges regularly, but these shoes look like they`re flats so it`s all good.
close up on the bottom of the skirt, so you can see the cute little flowers. i love the colours on the skirt.
[flowery dress, stitches outlet; yellow v-neck sweater, forever21; black belt, value village; eggplant convertible bag, pacific mall; green shoes (not pictured), payless shoes.]
meanwhile, in my dorky quest to have those crazy lensless glasses that all the hipsters & cool kids have, i have mutilated a crazy pair of sunglasses that look horrible on me as sunglasses. i`ve injured myself trying to pop the left lens out. the right lens came out pretty darn easy. anyhow, if i wear them as they are right now (the lens is still in on the left eye), i look like a pirate. ARRRH.
i must note that i look quite happy in that photo. for a photo taken at 4AM, i wonder why.
[sunglasses, bluenotes outlet.]
i vow i will get the lens out sometime soon.
sunglasses & glasses are really becoming a sort of guilty pleasure for me...
[edit added @ 9:52PM, just quite some time after the post was originally posted]
i got the lens out! & now that they`re out...
can`t resist posing with them!
looking like an inquisitive little asian. love my hood :) makes the hipster, scene cool thing so much more realistically hipster & scene.
burst out laughing while taking the photo, because i could see how ridic i look. yes, ridic - DEFINITELY something my hipster cool friends would say.
more inquisitive asian coming through!
i know some people hate the word 'hipster', equating it with 'try-hard' - but i love it. bahaha don`t ask.
people also hate that i love glasses, especially those people who have to wear them because their eyesight is bad.
let me clear something up: my eyesight is bad too. i wear prescription glasses, & with my non-prescription glasses, lensless glasses & sunglasses, i HAVE to wear contacts or else risk injury. i just love the way glasses look on me. i think they look good on me. so say what you want, but i love it.
& i know, i usually hate buying into the 'in thing', & so these lensless glasses should really be something i shy away from - for a while, i did - but now i just love it because it`s a convenient way to change things up.
on an extra note; my family is COMPLETELY used to me being weird & kooky. they did not even bat an eyelash at the lensless glasses, even though i have never worn them before. my sister didn`t even notice til i pointed them out.
apparently, i`m always wearing something slightly questionable. they`ve learned to phase out the shock.
hm. what would get them, do you think?
as mentioned earlier, the return of school marks one certain thing in particular that we here at SOS love...
THEME TUESDAY!
for those of you who don`t know (or can`t remember, considering the last theme tuesday was AGES ago...), theme tuesday is a weekly challenge for everyone - yes, that includes YOU, dear readers! we challenge each other & ourselves, as well as accept challenges from other people, to dress in a certain way on tuesdays.
next week`s theme tuesday, in honor of school starting again (here in toronto, where we SOSers live, we start school after the first monday in september), is quite simple:
PINK must be the central colour of the outfit, & the shoes may not be BLACK, GREY, or WHITE. (FOR THIS CHALLENGE ONLY, flip flops will be ALLOWED as footwear. but usually, they aren`t.) relatively easy, non? it`s a starter into everything. besides, pink is a colour of happiness! we should all be happy theme tuesdays will be back!
again, as always, i extend the offer to everyone to send in their photos or a link to their blogs or flickrs where the theme is being fulfilled.
SONG STUCK IN JAE`S HEAD: semi-charmed life, by third eye blind
kisses, love, & A REAL POST!

i tried to be perfect...
i thought that the name of the post might be a good, kind of 'emo' way to start the post?
well...it really does fit my efforts anyway.
the theme of today was "emo/scene"...& i don`t know how well i pulled that off.
maybe should have worn more black & ruffles.
in any case, i made my own grand effort.
i tried to do dark enough make-up, but without anywhere to go or any reason to be putting a lot of makeup or dressing up, i couldn`t do anything more. otherwise, my mom would wonder. she doesn`t understand theme-tuesdays as well as i`d like her to.
this is my outfit.
my attempt to show you all my makeup..which wasn`t very good.
estee lauder artist`s eye pencil (black)
maybelline pure powder in light
some random blush i got in a pack
a boboniaa-inspired grin :3
steph-type fierce!
close-up of my sweater, in all its awesome starry-print goodness.
my hair clips!
brown v-neck t-shirt: forever 21, 7$
white, yellow, brown, orange star-print hoodie: stitches (outlet), 5$
dark blue skinny jeans: stitches, 25$
yellow hair clips: dollarama, 1$ / 12-in-a-pack
purple flats (not pictured): walmart, 14.50$
none of the pictures i took could capture the little flippy bit my hair was doing at the back...& teasing it didn`t do anything! my hair has too much natural volume, i guess...but all in all, i don`t know if i fulfilled the whole scene thing.
i tried!
does anyone else have any pics of today`s theme? or any other 'challenge' themes for next week? let us know!
[stay tuned for the re-done pictures of the zombie fighter theme]
extra scene/emo love, as though that will put me up a peg in the books,

tragedy. pure tragedy.
i missed a week of blogging because i was sick - headaches; stomachaches; nausea that was bad enough to make the people in my immediate vicinity puke; dizziness; & extreme tiredness.
i`m better now, of course.
& i have SORELY missed blogging.
so what has happened since the time of my last post?
well, for one thing, i know you`re all expecting my theme tuesday pictures.
unfortunately, i lost one of my memory cards on my camera, the one with those pictures on it.
however, i do promise that next tuesday, i will do a redo of those photos, along with the next theme [to be announced].
i cut my hair :) you`ll see, on sunday. i`ll post up pictures for sure!
NEXT THEME TUESDAY:
the theme is scene/emo. yes, i know, you`re looking at me like i`m crazy, but it was actually a CHALLENGE THEME!!! a friend of mine wanted to see me dressed as 'scene' or 'emo' as i could, & so i decided to make it a group effort.
what is scene and/or emo? many would argue they are two different genres of style, & i`m not one to judge so i`m going to assume they`re different. but for your sake, i you-tubed a little bit of 'how to' for us...
apparently, a lot of it is in the makeup & hair. i found a bunch of videos on youtube that prove to be pretty helpful [especially those by alyssa abcission, who is totally adorable, even sans makeup].
makeup
hair
if you don`t like a MAJOR amount of teasing, this hair might suit you more.
& the cuter the accessories, the better.
little bows, big bows, head bands, whatever you find, stick it in your hair!
now for clothing.
i`m not sure how familiar you readers are with hot topic, a store in the states that seems to cater to punks, scene/emo kids & rockers. the canadian equivalent is probably something along the lines of west 49 and ardenes, meshed together.
mostly though, emo/scene kids seem to wear the same things others do, just rock them differently, with their hair and make up being the defining features.
i`m pretty sure we can pull this off, you guys :)
kisskiss&EXTRALOVE!

gritty jobs just got sexy.
this just in: AGATHE of Style Bytes is okay. according to things i`ve read in other blogs, she`s been seen out & about & is not, as many in the fashion-blogosphere feared, tied up in a shady hostel & being forced to sell her wardrobe, item by item.
but her blog has been taken down.
whether for good or just because of inactivity, most people are very upset by this.
we hope you`ll return, agathe. we miss you & your wardrobe & your blog & your cute little piggy (a lot of molvin love over here).
in other news:
next tuesday`s theme is ZOMBIE FIGHTER.
think of channeling angelina jolie (mr&mrs smith style) [as much as i`m not a huge fan of hers] in skin-tight everything. or claire, of resident evil fame. leather, perhaps. all black, maybe. unless you`re keeping it on the down-low. clothes tattered but wearable. maybe a few battle scars? who knows? the life of a zombie fighter is never easy.
i was slightly confused at first, because i couldn`t think of anything. i figured you all might be wondering too, so i decided to find some ideas.
[claire, jill & angelina jolie photos, courtesy of google images & each respective blog linked]
claire. in pink, cut-off denim jumpsuit goodness. are you kidding me? that`s awesome. with the spandex shorts & tight black turtle neck...yummy. & the utility-knife. & who doesn`t want to run around in knee-high boots?
claire. so hot. so pink. so damn...zombie fighter. i wouldn`t mind looking like this cartoon version of her, which i found on google images. whoever drew this clearly had 'hawt' in mind.
my friend kyle mentioned that he was surprised i didn`t look up jill valentine (also from resident evil). he educated me on the difference between the old version of her [this one] & the new [the next picture]. i`m definitely heart-ing the hat in this. & there`s the plain t-shirt with the sexy tapering pants, with the boots. hawt damn.
here`s the 'new' jill valentine. please direct your attention past the AWESOME hair [i`m in love with it!] to the blue tube top [is that practical? who cares, it`s sexy!] & the short black bandage skirt. & (le gasp!) is that a sweater tied around her waist? who knew zombie killing could be so chic? [gun not included.]
so casual looking. i like the idea of those pants. they remind me of my highbschool uniform, & boy-o-boy, wouldn`t i like to give my uniform pants another wear? clock the boots too. nice.
childhood flames totally has it. this is what i envision as THE ZOMBIE FIGHTER OUTFIT. i know that wasn`t what she was going for, but i saw the pic & thought 'that`s totally it.' especially the jacket. i`m feeling that jacket.
corpse couture`s giselle had these on her blog, waxing poetic about them. i agree - they are beautiful. & totally what i envision a stylish zombie fighter wearing.
jaiden james had this picture on his blog a while ago, & these shades are totally what i imagine a zombie fighter wearing during the day. they wouldn`t go on my face type, but he rocks them.
pamela of r.o.f.y. posted this picture recently, & i loved the skirt even before steph told me next week`s theme. now i can totally see it as zombie fighter gear. sexy, thigh-high slit to complete it. yum.
nadine, of strawberry kitten was wearing this adorable scarf, & i loved it. i think i could totally make it work as zombie fighter wear. to ensure that zombie grime doesn`t muck up my hair. love.
the sartorialist snapped a picture of this lovely lady, & i couldn`t help but think 'cotdamn, those are HAWT pants.' could i zombie fighter them? i probably could.
mr. style, of where the lights end posted THIS post, which i love. the hair is totally to die for. & of course...fits in with the sexy zombie fighter theme. seriously.
boyfriend: this is SO not zombie-fighter.
jae: we`re re-interpreting it. duhhh.
hope that was enough ideas to help you out for next tuesday!
please please please, if you have outfit pics of the themes, send them over! XD
love love love,
-jae, SOS
[EDIT @ 7:57 PM, 05 OCTOBER 2008]
steph discovered hilariousity -
apparently, one of the pictures of angelina jolie i had here was changed to...well...see for yourself.
i moved it down here just because i got a good laugh out of it - seeing the picture, but the description of the angelina jolie picture it`s SUPPOSED to be below it...ahahahahahahahahah... -jae
angelina jolie, battle leaving her with nothing but a few scratches and flyaway hair. if only we could all have that ability.
