hats, hoodies & headgear. a post for the plenty.

what is this?
jae is posting?
are you serious???

well, yes, i`m serious. i haven`t posted in a while (life caught up & i decided to take advantage of the fact that there are more people on our blogging team), but here it is : proof jae is not dead.

somehow, i seemed to have missed the part where summer stopped & autumn began.
it`s just..here.
not that i`m complaining. i do love me some autumn.
aside from it being the season of my birthday, it`s also the best season to dress for!

as soon as i could, i began to lust for headgear.
hats, hoodies, scarves, etc...
i mean, who doesn`t like headgear? my hair is in that transitional stage of not-too-short, not-too-long, not-cooperating-but-getting-along so headgear is a blessing on those days when only my bangs are listening.

[note to self: MUST GET HAIR CUT.]

[cream & gold oversized beret: h&m] i love this hat. it was under ten dollars, super cute & goes with my clothes perfectly. plus it`s lightweight so it doesn`t get hot wearing it, but it keeps me warm.

[black tommy hilfiger toque: stolen from brother] this hat used to be my brother`s, but he refuses to wear it so i took it. it`s warm & would be good in winter.

[purple hoodie: stitches] i love hoodies. love them love them love them. & i love to pose too. such a good combo.]

[scarf: h&m] steph bought me this for my birthday last year, & i still love it off. i`ve never worn a scarf like that before, but i think it looks pretty good.

[scarf: ardene] this picture is actually from summertime, but i thought i`d include it because it`s interesting. i never wear headbands like that, so i thought it would be kinda cool to dress like a hippy. feels so seventies.

my cousin & the friend who fashioned a hat out of a plastic bag for him. isn`t it cool? & it could actually be pretty functional.

regine, with her taekwondo belt wrapped around her head. yes, it counts as headgear (although not really practical for everyday use). she did a dance wearing it & it didn`t fall off. it was cute & hilariously funny to watch.

my best friend, neil, with his hood on (pleading "bad hair day"). see, hoods`r`us. & also, does he not have the straightest teeth ever? he makes me wish i`d gotten braces when i was little.

cute little itty bitty baby. isn`t she adorable? she`s the daughter of a family friend, & this dress was absolutely cute. [note: i put her hood on her head for her, expressly for this photo...she got annoyed immediately & pulled it off. but still, cute nonetheless!]

verdict? headgear = awesome.

theme tuesday
this week`s theme is HARAJUKU LOVERS, based off the popular gwen stefani fragrances.
each of the SOS team has chosen a different fragrance to represent, so stay tuned for pics of that! :) & feel free to join & send us a link or a photo of you in your harajuku lovers outfit!

oh & before i forget : this is an exclusive offer for canadian residents (i know, i apologize to all of you who live outside of canada! i didn`t make up the rules...), but i believe it ends on the thirty-first so i would hurry & sign up soon.

alright everyone, i`m off!

i`ll present you with random facts...sometime tomorrow maybe.

ps: sorry that all the photos are really crappy quality - i still can`t find my petey (my camera) & so i`m stuck using baeley (my cellphone) for photos. well, anything`s better than nothing, right?

locked, loaded & ready to go.

pictures, pictures, just as promised! get `em while they`re hot!

first of all, a time-line of my hair.

i had longer-ish hair, before february. i wanted to cut it after exams [in april], but i got impatient, so steph & another friend of ours (kim) cut it for me in february.
before the cut, this was my hair...

(tres long et impossible...i didn`t even show it in it`s impossible glory.)

& after the cut, this was my hair...

(like a day or two after, in all it`s layered, wavy, asymmetrical glory.)

i let it grow a bit more...i wanted to get a new cut soon...but i wanted to wait until AFTER summer; before school, so i could be the cool kid on the block.

(this was my hair, about a week before the new cut. that`s my sister with me, with her hair up. she`s cool.)

unfortunately, the trend with me is that i`m very impatient. which led to me cutting it. which meant that it went from all that, to this.

(me & my short hair.)

END TIMELINE.

so today was my church`s 9th anniversary! it was a pretty big event, a lot of people, a lot of food, a lot of stuff. i`m on the church dance team, so we were busy practicing for weeks & weeks before this event. i only managed a few pictures here & there.

these three are on the dance team, & were in the red group this time. they`re always trying to come up with variations on the same outfit.

i was on the blue team :)

this cutie was holding my cellphone, opening it & closing it & saying, "hello?"

this adorable little girl dragged me to the wall, pressed her back up against it & said, "cheese!"
she was very quick to return to a little frown. she always look so serious, it`s so cute!

the two, sharing a bag of chips. look how far her small arm goes into the bag! it`s so cute!!!

that`s all i could share for today, but what do you think of the hair? i`ve had mixed reviews about it. it`s the shortest it`s ever been since i was a child, & i`m thinking of trimming it a bit shorter...but i don`t know.

XOXOXOX

one week of danger = not very long. apparently.

according to the virgins, one week of danger is not very long.
thought i`d throw that in, even though it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with today`s post.

so aSOoS has been tagged [le gasp!] by the whimsical nerd:) & by the lovely ladies at r.o.f.y..
because steph is just slightly more than a little busy at the moment, i step in to take on the daunting task of fulfilling the tag duties.

***************************
SIX QUIRKS
Here are the rules:
1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules in your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers' blogs letting them know they've been tagged.

so we`re already linked to both the blogs that tagged us; i`ve mentioned the rules...
& here are my six quirks.
[1] i`m a bit obsessive-compulsive. [a bit is quite the understatement.]
-numbers must be odd, especially on the volume. i set my alarm clocks to ODD numbered times. i must do things in odd numbers. i will leave the last piece of cereal in the bowl if it cannot be joined with the other pieces in odd numbers on my spoon. i calculate if the time is an odd number. [note: there are twenty-seven asterisks in the lines that are separating each section of this post.]
-drawstrings on hoodies must be EQUAL length. collars must either both be UP [in that dorky cool way] or DOWN [in the normal way]. sleeves must be rolled up to the same length. pant legs must be cuffed exactly the same length. the only thing i don`t mind is hair that is asymmetrical. both steph & i have asymmetrical haircuts...i think if i minded, i`d cut my own head off.
-doors & closets & cupboards must be closed. i cannot stress that enough.
[2] i`m a severe arachnophobe. i hyperventilate & cry & shake & my heart pounds...all that good stuff.
[3] i`m quite long-winded when i don`t need to be. it comes from reading all those damn long books with the descriptions that take up more than half the book...i enjoyed those, actually.
[4] i sucked my thumb up to the age of nine. my family tried everything to get me to quit: pepper on my thumb, gloves, sticking it in bitter melon until my thumb looked all pruney ... nothing worked. absolutely nothing. i finally managed to quit b/c i stuck my hand under my pillow & slept on top of it. now sleeping on my hand is quite the problem with me.
[5] i once ate a whole tub of ice cream on my own. 4L of ice cream. then i realized that 'o my goodness, there`s no ice cream left...' & 'did i eat that all on my own?' what can i say? i used to be big on the ice cream. now it`s all about french fries.
[6] i memorize all my favourite movies & tv shows. to the point where i use movie lines in a lot of my real life interactions...you won`t get it unless you watch the movie, but i don`t mind. it`s apparently a 'boy' trait to have, but i like it.

today was theme tuesday!
finally, a theme tuesday with a THEME!
the theme was to wear all of ONE colour. different shades were okay, yes, but ultimately, one colour.
unfortunately, it was too cold to go without a jacket and sweater, but i chose blue :)

went down to the beach after playing basketball with my boyfriend & another close friend, so this is my outfit pic for the day...

wow, excuse the stupid look on my face. it was bright & sunny. & cold.

black theory jacket: gift
white cardigan: pacific mall, 2 for 30$ deal
blue t-shirt: designer depot, 4$
blue skinny jeans: stitches, 25$
blue socks [not shown]: gift from my grandma
blue tommy hilfiger sneakers: the bay, 20$ (on sale/employee discount)

how do i get those darn salt/water stains out of my shoes? :S

the boyfriend & i, sharing a moment :) we look high, but we`re not.

some more random pictures...
yesterday, hanging out with my best friends...

us: "rawr".
we`re so cool.

my cousins, for the heck of it!

during a really random 'photo-shoot' of myself, after having enhanced my hair`s natural waves with a bit of curling... [those of you with me on facebook will recognize some of these]

cheesy pose :)

kind of blurry, sorry.

SH! i`m trying to keep a secret.

i have a less-scandalous version of this picture, where my shoulder is covered...but this one is pretty darn nice.

i hope this was enough to suffice for the significant lack of posting both steph & i have contributed to this blog.

love, hugs, coffee & summer-time;

better late than never...

so i know it`s late, but i just got home so i`m going to make up for it by blogging as much as possible in one entry.

today i decided to 'interview' one of my little brother`s friends. his name is joey d, & he`s almost like a younger brother to me. he`s probably one of the most cool high-schoolers i`ve ever met. he`s a pretty stylin` kid.

[joey, sixteen and charmingly adorable!]

[the way his scarf & his hoodie clash is awesome. it looks so cool!]

anyway, on to the interview...

[background on the interview. joey went thrifting and purchased his supremely awesome sweater recently - as seen in the pictures - so i thought it would be a good idea to talk to him about thrifting and things like that, because we all love a good thrift.]

where did you go thrifting for that?
the value village at markham and lawrence
[right by where he lives]
oh yeah? how often do you go thrifting there?
every month, at least one to three times.
alone?
no, i go with my friends.
so that`s all you got the last time you went? what do you normally get?

i got some more stuff, but i have no money right now so i couldn`t get more. usually i get sweaters, shirts, rarely shoes...because when i go, i always go on the crappy days so there`s no good stuff. i go there for anything. when i see what i like, i get it. hoodies or shirts mostly.
so that awesome sweater was pure fluke?
yup :)
i like it.
thanks :)
what influences what you wear?
i try to wear what others don`t wear, because i really don`t like copying.
so when the scarf was the 'in' thing all of a sudden this year, did it bug you?
yeah, it bugs me because it became this huge trend.
ah. yeah, i guess it would if you wanted to be more or less 'one of a kind'.
yeah...
what about colour? any preferences?
no, as long as it looks good...except i have to be careful because not all colours go with my skin tone. i have to be careful what i choose. but if i could, i`d wear all sorts of crazy stuff....i`d wear pink.
pink? really? *giggle*
yeah. i would. i think it`s kind of sexist because society chooses what colours you`re allowed to wear, but i think it`s cool to just wear what you want.
do you think you`d enjoy dressing up more if you were a girl? i mean, girls get a lot of different choices because they can even dress like guys if they have to. you think guys have less choices?
i think i`d have to agree that girls do have more choices, but if i could go back and choose what i was going to be [a girl or a guy, in other words], i wouldn`t really care. i think that i wouldn`t care if i had to choose.
what`s the worst thing you`ve ever had to wear?

i would have to say it was when a girl made me put on a skirt. *self-deprecating laugh*
so you`re okay with your uniform then? [white collared shirt, grey pants, navy blue sweater]
no problems with it. not really.
do you tweak it then? with scarves or other things?
i do...but then i do get in trouble for it. it kind of bothers me.
you think it`s worth it, to get in trouble for expressing your style?
yeah i do think so. i try to look through the regulations and outlines for the uniform, so that i can try to go along with it but add my own touches.
they don`t notice at all?
no they don`t, do it`s okay.

they changed the uniform lately and limited your choices a lot - what do you think of that?
it bothers me because i saw how the older grades had a chance to show their style more freely. it limited us a lot. especially because style nowadays is media-driven and nobody dresses differently. everyone wears their kind of preppy clothes, with the abercrombie and fitch and things like that.
you think when you finish highschool, you`re going to be WAY OUT there & just dress however you want first thing? or will you be more of a gradual change from the uniform colours to a brighter spectrum, like me?
i think i`m going to be more out there. throw off the molds.
how about your friends, are they more like you - building their own style - or are they crowd followers?
i have friends who love thrifting, and some are more conformists to what the media portrays.
so in a way, are you influenced by the media too?
i try not to be, but it does happen, to be honest. it`s hard not to be.
what do you define 'style' as?
i would say...style is what`s really inside. what you`re feeling is what you`re expressing. like you`re wearing your feelings on the outside.
that`s pretty deep, man. are you always that deep?
um...sure?
do you think people label too much? you have your 'preppy' and 'gangster' and all those...are they correct, or are they matters of trends?
i think labels are wrong...like you could be dressing preppy, but you aren`t preppy. i do believe we shouldn`t have to label people because they could get offended. and also, there are stereotypes that come along with labels, and those could be pretty offensive too.
people talk about how guys who dress nicely, like they clean up well and carry their clothes well - they say they "must be gay or something". what do you think of that kind of mentality?
why should that person care about other people`s opinions? it`s society shaping how guys should act, what they should wear and what not. i believe we should all be unique individuals.
of all celebrities, models, etc...whose style is their actual style and not a stylist`s or a trend? who inspires you in that way?
i don`t really pay attention to the media...so....i don`t have one. :)

joey is a really cool kid - outspoken about things, for somebody who is in high school. i know a lot of kids in high school really just want to fit in, so to be outspoken about not wanting to fit a mold is great. (i`m still allowed to say that because i just got out of high school.) even though it might seem like he`s your typical scarf-&-hoodie-type of guy, joey actually has a lot of crazy style. keep an eye out for him because he will be on the blog again. :)

speaking of thrifting, earlier the past week, stephanie & i went thrifting. i have yet to dry clean the skirt [a zara skirt, in perfect condition] & the shoes have been worn, but not broken in yet [they are gorgeous]. i will have pictures as soon as possible, as they are amazing.

what i`ve noticed lately is how mommies dress their children so much better than they themselves dress. i`ve noticed it quite a lot. today`s fashionable child is a little girl whose name is precious. she`s almost two, & her mother dresses her in cute little dresses and does her hair in pigtails...i thought she was worth a mention, because who can resist a little girl in a cute little dress? [i let her smack me in the face, in that way that little kids love to do. it`s because i can`t say no.]

here she is, as cute and fashionable as ever. don`t you love what she`s wearing? long live the age of the fashionable children.

& of course, more stylish and fashionable people..
i present to you, regine, sweetie and kristen.

regine - her entire outfit was bought at an outlet mall. a 2.50$ shirt, a 1$ belt, 5$ jeans and 5$ platform shoes...this girl is always rocking a lot of colour.

sweetie - a perfect grey combination today, with a cute white short-sleeved turtleneck and the grey dress over it and the lighter grey knee-high socks over the dark grey tights [can`t really see it in this picture] & the heather-grey flats [she changed into these dark brown boots, just to change it up]. so cute!

kristen - so not the greatest picture of her, because she wasn`t looking & everyone was distracting her, but kristen always dresses impeccably. i especially love her vest & tie!

anyway, until tuesday, i leave you with this thought, a la joey d...
wouldn`t it be nice if everyone stopped conforming to society and just wore what they felt inside on the outside of their bodies?

kisses,
