I know, I know, it's been forever since you've seen multiple outfit posts within the same month on SOS. However, I am finally the proud owner of a good camera, and the weather's finally good in Toronto. Unfortunately, we've been stuck in uncharacteristic, impossible, cold, transitional weather for the past couple months. However, except for a couple days of rain, the past week or two have been quite nice, which hopefully means that summer is finally starting!

To celebrate the lovely weather and my new camera, Steph and I took a stroll through her neighbourhood (otherwise known as on the way to the nearby bus stop) partially as a means of showing off the summer clothing sans sweaters and jackets that we can finally break out. It's also a test-run of my newly cut hair, self-trimmed for the first time.

WHERE CAN I GET THAT?!

Have you ever seen someone on TV or on the streets, fallen in love over their outfits and pondered over where you could find the same thing? Where Did She Get It? is a website devoted to answering that very question. The idea is simple. A user can either upload, email or send via iPhone a picture of an outfit. From there, the community can help you figure out where a dress/bag/pair of shoes is from! This website is just tres cool. Very, very smart.

The only downfall? It's incredibly New York oriented, with constant references to exclusively New York stores. Maybe it'll turn up for other cities soon?

Transitional Weather...

It's that time of year. Nope, not Christmas. Something far less friendly and heart-warming - the season of transitional weather. You know, that not-so-nice time in the spring where it's still heavily raining - or worse, lightly snowing, and it's not quite warm enough. Living in a part of the world experiencing all four seasons comes with a cost. Although I'm loving the sunshine we're getting, as soon as I step outside, I always seem to be hit with an "Oh, right, summer's still a while away."

I always forget how much I struggle with my outfit choices - it's still too cold to go bare-legged, too and well, I'm not a girl to throw on jeans. What makes it even more difficult is that store windows are filled with pretty little things for summer - all the fantastic sandals and summer dresses are incredibly tempting, but then I remember that I can't wear any of it for another two months.. For me though, the biggest struggle is footwear.

What are transitional weather shoes?!

I suppose the point of writing this is to beg for any advice - what can I wear on my feet with a dress and tights? I feel like flats and sneakers are jeans-wear items, so I'm stuck. I would wear heels daily, but I'd kind of like to pick up an easier look so I don't look quite as overdressed on a daily basis. Is spring jeans-wearing weather? Is it time for me to brave the cold air on my feet with tights and flats?

I'm so sad I don't live in the States. First, I miss all the real excitement of the election, and now, awesome designer digs at Target?

Basically, Alexander McQueen in collaborating with Target, much like Converse did (my basic Chucks came from Target, I'm not ashamed).

...I'm all for that! The collection, called "McQ" debuts March 1st and is supposed to range from $30 to $50 - tres exciting. Now I need to find a reason to travel State-side and visit a Target...

New era x Sneaker Pimps Sneaker Pimps is a world wide sneaker tour where hundreds of rare shoes are carted around and put on display, there are also live graffiti artists doing their thing and live music performances. I got this hat from Sneaker Pimps in 2006 I think

Silly Thing x Supreme x Undercover x Futra This is probably the coolest shirt I have. It's from an art show in Hong Kong featuring one of my favorite graffiti artists named FUTURA 2000. The event was called Event Horizon and the shirt was not sold outside of this even..but I got the hookups

Warhol Factory x Levis Not much to say about these..I didn't even know Andy Warhol made Levis..but I found these and they are probably my second favorite pair of jeans

Ben Drury x Nike Air Max 87 The pirate radio station scene in London is HUGE and it features some of the best upcoming artists out there. Ben Drury is a DJ for a pirate radio station in London and he was given the opportunity to be a part of a Nike shoe pack called Air You Breathe. I also have the matching jacket and bag for this shoe, I'd show you more details on the shoe (insole art is pretty sweet on these) but I don't want totake up all your time. I will say the quality and materials on this shoe are FANTASTIC..3M mudguard, soft leather, pebbled leather swoosh *drools*

Steph persuaded to take these photos and create an outfit post. And, due to my lack of contribution to the blog of late, I obliged. Apologies for the bad quality + lack of editting - my Photoshop has sadly gone awry.

So about that shopaholic disease. I KNOW Costa and UB aren't of the greatest quality, but I couldn't resist. And well, my credit card bill paid for my lack of restraint. Basically, my friend at work took her break before me and came back from Urban Behaviour spending $150, to which I vowed to spend far less, a max of $50.

BUT THEN, I went into the store and couldn't resist. How often do you find multiple decent sweaters for less that $20?! And plus, everything fit in with my "winter uniform" (the outfit that I seem to be wearing all winter) - tights, boots, dress, sweater. Needless to say, when the bill came up to just over $110, I was mildly shocked. Unfortunately, the next day Costa X had their 50% off sale. You think I would learn from the day before, but no. I ended up spending both my breaks combined (a half hour, and 15 minutes) waiting in line to get into the store, waiting for a size, and then waiting in line to pay. Don't get me wrong, as cheap (quality) as they are, I love my new boots. I guess this is just the price of working in a mall. I just wish they were a pair of Manolos or something...

i`d make a worthy adversary, i`m sure.

in my attempts to TRY finishing the last bit of homework for the semester, i "stumbled" onto lookbook this morning (see how coherent i am?) & found these beautiful beautiful stylish men!

i found this awesome & hilarious, as i was wearing just about the EXACT same thing on friday - except my hat is a bright turquoise, & i was wearing dark blue jeans, & my bag is faux-suede & faux-shearling.

(2)this boy must share the same inspirations as me when it comes to dressing. hence, he is hawt.
(3)so is this boy.

i sorely wish to be best friends with a supremely stylish boy, who will indulge me by allowing me to steal parts of their wardrobe to add to my own, but who will also steal parts of my wardrobe because it just fits their aesthetic so.

Failsafe night

Forewarning: this post is just built to fail since all words are unfit in describing the indescribable events that went down last night. The words awesome, epic, stupendous, sublime, fall terribly short in explaining the time between 7-12AM on November 13, 2008. Lives were saved, asses were shook and only good times were to be had. Usually I'd erupt in a rant describing how bad my grammar is by now but honestly NOTHING makes sense anymore other than Andrew McMahon's voice.

So instead of further killing last nights experience with words I'll bestow upon you photographic proof of Andrew's awesomeness.

Epic

As I was reading Steph's AndrewMcMahoncentric post, I was shocked to find out that she forgot to put up his most EPIC song to date. And so, I give to you the beautiful, the heartwrenching, the amazing, the superlong Konstantine, an Andrew song from Something Corporate.

Also after reading Steph's post, I found my self shocked that she thought so highly of The Glass Passenger. However, she convinced me to give it a second try, and the honesty Andrew gets to is pretty freaking awesome. Throughout highschool, Something Corporate's "Leaving Through the Window" was the CD I played again and again, so seeing Andrew live on Thursday will be an AMAZING experience. Can't wait! We'll try to document as best we can of course :)

In other news, I recently did a couple job interviews for Club Monaco. Talk about epic right? Okay, well, it's epic for me. I personally love the classic look of the store. As I walked into the store, I was elated. It would be amazing to work in a place that's just so fashionable. The detailing, structure and quality of Club Monaco has me in awe. It's fantastic.

The interviews themselves seemed to go pretty well. The manager seemed really cool and really chill, and asked me about editting my highschool newspaper. It was fun. The second interview with the district manager was even more fun. It was a group interview, which I'm not usually too great at, but I think I did pretty well.

The best part was when she asked us each to pick out an outfit from around the store that exemplified our style. She gave us ten minutes, and I think I did really well. I chose a top much like the American Apparel shirt to the left, except it was more structured - I'd love to own it. I paired it with a black A-line skirt that had white detailing running up it. I also picked up a gold necklace with black jewels and a gold skinny belt to pull it all together. As a finishing touch, I chose a black clutch with a jewel on it.

Although I don't think I got the job because I haven't yet been called, it was the most fun I had at an interview so far. Tell me about your epic job interviews!

Confession: I love Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I'm sure everyone knows by now that the twins have an impeccable sense of style. The pint-sized fashion icons are not only gorgeous, they're also multi-million dollar media moguls in their own right. And how cool is that?

It's been a long love affair. I've followed them from Full House, to their direct-to-video movies, to their various television series. So Little Time = classic. Seriously.

And then, all of a sudden, they were being photographed around NYU in long bohemian skirts carrying gigantic Starbucks cups. It was love.
Love, love, love.

Since then, they evolved into fashion industry execs. Their fashion lines "The Row" and "Elizabeth and James" are amazing, but I'm completely biased. Have a look for yourself.




The Row is high-end, and headed primarily by Ashley. The promo is pretty old, and I can't find information that's very current, but even still, the line is just amazing. I adore the versatility and simplicity, but the fact that it's still edgy and incredibly fashionable is just brilliant to me.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth and James is edgier, and caters more to younger crowd. This line is the one which Mary-Kate takes reign of. It totally incorporates her boho-chic style and matches it with menswear inspired blazers alongside frilly, girlie dresses. I've seen pieces throughout different fashion magazines, and well, I can't help but love it all. I would definitely wear pieces across the entire line.

Words cannot express my adoration, seriously. I promise you there will be more MKA love to come.

well, yes, i`m serious. i haven`t posted in a while (life caught up & i decided to take advantage of the fact that there are more people on our blogging team), but here it is : proof jae is not dead.

somehow, i seemed to have missed the part where summer stopped & autumn began.
it`s just..here.
not that i`m complaining. i do love me some autumn.
aside from it being the season of my birthday, it`s also the best season to dress for!

as soon as i could, i began to lust for headgear.
hats, hoodies, scarves, etc...
i mean, who doesn`t like headgear? my hair is in that transitional stage of not-too-short, not-too-long, not-cooperating-but-getting-along so headgear is a blessing on those days when only my bangs are listening.

[cream & gold oversized beret: h&m] i love this hat. it was under ten dollars, super cute & goes with my clothes perfectly. plus it`s lightweight so it doesn`t get hot wearing it, but it keeps me warm.


[black tommy hilfiger toque: stolen from brother] this hat used to be my brother`s, but he refuses to wear it so i took it. it`s warm & would be good in winter.

[scarf: h&m] steph bought me this for my birthday last year, & i still love it off. i`ve never worn a scarf like that before, but i think it looks pretty good.

my cousin & the friend who fashioned a hat out of a plastic bag for him. isn`t it cool? & it could actually be pretty functional.


regine, with her taekwondo belt wrapped around her head. yes, it counts as headgear (although not really practical for everyday use). she did a dance wearing it & it didn`t fall off. it was cute & hilariously funny to watch.


my best friend, neil, with his hood on (pleading "bad hair day"). see, hoods`r`us. & also, does he not have the straightest teeth ever? he makes me wish i`d gotten braces when i was little.

Plastic Skyline

You know those people that are amazingly talented/awesome/artistic that you can't help but envy? Well, it just so happens I know one and had recently found out about her latest amazing project. Believe me, it totally blows my mind that someone can be this creative and actually do something about it at just seventeen. Yes, I've heard of the fifteen-year-old fashion design success Kira Plastinina, but how often do you actually personally know of such talents?

PLASTIC SKYLINE is a fantastic Toronto-based online store dedicated to vintage wear. They also sell hand-sewn skirts, one of which I've purchased myself. Not only that, the prices are quite inexpensive (I don't think I saw anything for $30+) and the shipping is reasonable - and that's saying a lot when you consider my barely-can-afford-food-student-budget. (Although, I always seem to be making an exception for great clothing - damn you Visa bill!) Great vintage clothing paired with two smart girls who just happen to be terribly cute? How can you go wrong!

Upon showing a couple friends, a common critique was, "Not everyone's a size 2-4!" Okay, so I'm tiny, but I'm not model-thin and tall. I'm just little. And it's harder than most people think for tiny girls to find clothes! Dresses and jeans are usually too long. So, for me, Plastic Skyline is a pretty darn good match.

So snatch stuff up quick before they sell :)
