A friend of ours recently embarked on a two-month long exchange in Europe, namely Russia and Siberia (yes, that's right, Siberia). We made a list of 100 dares for her, to be sure that she made the most of her trip. Nearly the 100 mark, we started struggling to think of anything innovative and interesting, so we tried handy Google. Alas, there wasn't an already-existing list! And that brings us here.
Dear readers, the following is a list of dares - some funny, some silly, a couple possibly dangerous - for you to do this summer. Coup de grace of pranks. ok not really...
Got the prank off Wired. Essentially you freeze some mentos in ice cubes, put it in your diet coke and once the mentos is exposed to the soft drink it will go off like your mom when she found out it was you that peed on the side of the house when you found it impossible to reach the bathroom in your inebriated state last night, hypothetically. But there is much skepticism about the prank working because of the degassing of the pop and the dissolving of cavities on the outer coating (the point of nucleation) on the mentos when it is put in the water. But if it does fail, one can garnish your friend's glass with a live hand grenade and see how that goes.

Your how-to of the week, it’s ok to take notes.

How the world of Geek can be yours.
Geek:
1 - A carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake
2 - A person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked
3 - An enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity
This Saturday we’re going to focus on the 3rd definition of Geek and how you too can be one! I’ve compiled a brief algorithm to help you on your newly ordained quest to Geek-dom, ordained by moi of course.
Step (1) what are you going to expert in?
- Games: Endless possibilities here with so many game consoles on the market and so many games for each console to choose from. Then there are also the computer games you can buy. Some awesome games you can become pro at are Bejewelled, Marble Madness or bomber man. (Get some retro cool games at http://www.nintendo8.com/)
- Music: Be it a genre or a group you can focus on the pop scene of 1974 or widen your expertise and totally impress your friends with you knowledge of Gothic techno. (check out some new music with the help of http://hypem.com/ or http://elbo.ws/)
- Get in on some Science: Memorise your periodic table(TAKE IT IN... http://itsnoname.com/), or get all technologically savy with bits and bytes (get some techno wisdom at http://www.wired.com/)
ENDLESS possibilities and portals to geekdom!
Step (2) Keep updated to date on a side order of style.
Self explanatory, keep aSOS as your homepage, BREATH, SLEEP and EAT it.
Step (3) Take a listen to some geekTASTIC ear candy I’ve prepared:
Super massive black hole – Muse: So imagine this, someone asks you “hey what are you listening to?” you adjust your glasses and say “Super massive black hole”. Feeling it? Yeah I thought so, you’ll have them asking “what the eff kind of songs do you listen too?”
They never got you – Spoon: That is right, THEY NEVER GOT YOU! You, against the grain, geek you! Download and DANCE like a chicken with its head cut off. NOW GO!
Crazy Cool- Flamboyant Bella: “I ain’t got no rules because im crazy cool, and I dance like I dance cause I got the tools” Geeks are crazy cool, that’s all. The end.
With these simple steps you too can be a geek. Perhaps next week i'll focus on the first definition of geek, om nom nom.
The oh so bored,
Steph=O

slight obsession.
can we really call it 'slight' still?
see, it all started with ROCKBAND.
my character, lovingly named jae (after moi!), looked exactly like a thinner version of me in every little bit. with layered black hair, pouty lips, winged eyeliner & a mean-looking double-necked guitar (which i don`t actually possess...to my chagrin), she was exactly like me.
except she lacked one thing.
standing there in the rock shop, looking fierce as a tiger, she was almost exactly me except she wore no glasses.
:O
to rectify this, i ran to the accessories section of the shop & tried on a dozen different kinds of glasses on her. i liked them all. so i spent hard-earned cash, money i had played a dozen gigs for, just to buy her all the glasses & sunglasses that she could ever want or need.
it was at that moment that i decided that, like my character in rockband, i could use glasses as accessories for myself.
after all, why not?
unlike most people who are FORCED to wear glasses & hate them, i love them! prescription or not, glasses are actually a lot more fun for me than they are for others. & more so when i would slip my contacts into my eyes & then be able to wear sunglasses too...i figured, why stop at sunglasses? why not collect a gamut of other glasses, non-prescription & lensless, to fill out my glasses-wardrobe ?
this is just the beginning of it, i`m sure.
to begin :
[WITH LENS: from top to bottom (newest to oldest) : black & pink non-prescription glasses, from ardenes ; eggplant & blue prescription glasses, from woodside optical.]
[SUNGLASSES: from top to bottom (newest to oldest) : black wayfarers, from ardenes ; golden aviators, from bluenotes ; silver aviators, from blue notes ; leopard-ish print wayfarers, from bluenotes ; trusty old black sunnies, from ricki`s.]
[LENSLESS GLASSES: from top to bottom (newest to oldest) : black, from dollarama ; blue, from dollarama ; grey, from dollarama ; giant-buggies (used to be sunglasses), bluenotes ; purple + rhinestones, lost-&-found @ camp.]
the lensless ones are the best. everyone talks about them because...well..until you look closely, they don`t look like they`re lensless. i love them. they`re almost controversial. plus, i am planning on getting non-prescription lenses put in them. it`s amazing. & the best part is...most of the frames i have were only about a dollar from the dollar store. super cheap, yes, but also means i can buy a lot more.
when popping lenses out of glasses, do it from the inside to the out. that is, put your thumbs on the side of the glass/plastic that would be closest to your eyes if you were wearing them, & then push out. it`s easier, apparently. it takes a bit of practice, but it`s well worth it.
also remember that the lower the prescription, the thinner the lens, thus the easier it is to remove the lens.
HOW TO WEAR LENSLESS GLASSES
rock them. just plain & simple...rock them. wear them like you mean it. if people ask, don`t hesitate to tell them where you bought them. don`t hesitate to show them that they`re frames. if they try to poke your eyes, reach out & poke theirs first!
ignore the haters who will tell you that only wannabes wear lensless glasses. after all, the same argument could be used that only sailors like nautical clothes, that only debs like pearls, that only dominatrixes wear sky-high stiletto boots, etc.
yeah. in my book, it is definitely cooler than cool to rock lensless glasses.
after all, not everyone can pull off glasses. so if you can, why not?
kisses,
jae :)
[ps: i closed up my livejournal & opened up my own personal blog. it can be found here! (clickyclicky)
please note that i will be working on both this blog & ABOJ, not abandoning one for the other.]

it`s almost the end...
exams are almost over. i`m almost done.
& life has finally begun to look up.
it`s been a bit harried for me, so a longer post on thursday,
but i will say that i was thrilled with the new episode of gossip girl...except i do miss nan zhang`s character...sigh.
we have missed yet another theme tuesday, & i`m sorry for that, but it will resume once all the stress surrounding exams is GONE.
no pictures, nothing of substance, nothing but stressed out little jae who has a big exam tomorrow & has not begun to study.....
i`m sorry, i`m sorry!
*stresses*
photos & substance on thursday, i promise!
how to procrastinate:
make a blog entry instead of studying...
& then don`t make the entry anything special.
please please please go watch gossip girl & ignore that i haven`t written anything for you to read.
it`s another good way to procrastinate.
love & sincerest apologies

Ch-Ch-Change it up (double stuff)
So as a student in university classes and assignments can weigh you down. The daily schedule just becomes monotonous and uninspiring. You feel a bit mundane and have some time on your hands? If so try these things out to sh-sh-shake things up (all the following has been SOS tested, proof is in the pictures):
(1) Play tourist, go around your area and check out the sites round and about. Enjoy the fountain at the mall, random free architecture around your house, go to a nearby park, check out some of the free sights/events available to tourists and take advantage of it. (see fig 1 to the left. clearly Natasha is taking full advantage of the architecture near my school)
(2) Go out to the mall and try out a new look. Take a risk in the change room, try out what you think looks ridiculous, what you love on others but never thought would look good on you. You may find out that, yeah that looks really bad on you (which my friend Sean found after trying on the hat on the right), but hey now you know for sure. And there is always a chance you'll find something you love. The great thing about it is you don't have to buy it if it doesn't suit you.
(3) Have a photo shoot with your friends. Feel ridiculous? Don’t!It's cheap, It's fun and you have something to show for at the end of the day. Have fun Make a theme if you’d like. And you can do it anywhere.
The pictures on the bottom & to the right were done on campus, where we (me - left; Jae - bottom) shamelessly posed while people passed by. Quite fun.
(4) Treat your self to something nice. In Jae's case she gave into temptation and splurged 25 cents on a magnificent Dog charm mentioned before and shown in the figure below. In my case I update my mp3's on a regular to keep from getting bored. Sometimes you got to give yourself a little surprise and just treat yourself, to shake off the everyday blahs.
(& at the end of the post I have a little compilation of new songs I've loaded on my computer)
***BUT HOW DO I CH-CH-CHANGE UP MY RELATIONSHIP?***
[an extra bit from JAE]
relationship not half as exciting as it was before? tired of the same ol` routine & wanting to do something new? believe me (jae), relationships can actually be REALLY great & STILL fall into ruts.
like anything that has a routine built in, relationships need some kind of boost every so often. the gasoline to a relationship is to add a little 'oomph' to it. there are a million different articles on 'how to make your relationship work', & they all share some great ideas on what to do. but things like planning a vacation for two or buying something extravagant? those ideas, while lovely & amusing, don`t sound realistic; especially if you`re a poor student (like us here at SOS).
being the only SOSer in a relationship, & having been in this relationship for three & a half years, i felt i could probably throw my two-cents into the pot-o`-relationship-advice.
this isn`t ALL the advice i could possibly ever dole out [believe me, i can tell you a lot more] but they`re just a few suggestions...
*(hand)writing love letters. emails are all fine & dandy, but writing something by hand shows a lot more effort. even if you don`t say much in those letters except talk about your day or how you`re feeling at the moment, it`ll mean a lot. if you looked in my boyfriend`s room, you`d find a tin jar FULL of letters from me (i`m a bit obsessive about it). & boys, don`t think only girls write sappy love letters - we actually LOVE receiving letters from you.
*like steph mentioned earlier, photo-shoots. i know, you`re thinking "what? i`d never ever do something as mundane as that, especially not with my boyfriend/girlfriend!" but look further into it: things like that can seriously take you out of your comfort zone. taking spontaneous pictures can look horrendous, & you could end up capturing a really stupid-looking face of yours on camera, but letting him/her see it can make them realize that you`re not afraid of letting yourself go around them. (see below picture that just SHOWS my extremely weird-looking, ultra-happy face)
then, you can take whatever weird photos you`ve snapped & make super-awesome collages! these collages make great desktop backgrounds, which is always a quirky kind of 'gift' you can spontaneously give them when they least expect it. i mean, imagine turning on your laptop & finding a collage of yourself & your significant other - wouldn`t you be pleasantly surprised? [check out these random collages i made of myself & mark(my boyfriend) - i can`t believe i`m posting them up on the blog, but i know you`ll appreciate it!]
*be a bit nerdy & talk to each other without really talking, while sitting next to one another. the other day, mark had his nintendo ds & we were using the chatroom to talk to one another, even though we were right next to each other. it made for some interesting conversation, & some photograph-able cute moments (see below).
"i love you, mark"
"i love you too jae. always & forever k?"
"ALWAYS. you make me happy."
*draws happy faces w/ hair & hearts*
things like that can SEEM sappy, but they`re definitely not.
*some other things you can do include leaving love letters under their pillow; texting them or leaving them voice-mail messages that detail your affections for them; buying a teddy bear & naming it after them (ie: naming it mark, then letting others know you`re sleeping with mark everynight!) ; not calling them & waiting for them to call you, especially if the routine is to be the one to call; spend a whole day (that you would normally spend with them) AWAY from them because absence makes the heart grow fonder; wear your hair the way they always say they like it; spray your perfume / cologne on their pillow discreetly so that when they go to bed they`ll smell it & think of you...
i know this all seems like things you can do to surprise your boyfriend/girlfriend, but believe me - anything you don`t normally do is actually a good way of getting out of a relationship rut. sometimes, these ruts can make a relationship go stale, & you don`t want that happening! i find that when things become too routine, the best thing to do is to find something that you find is COMPLETELY routine [like that whole 'i usually call everyday at this point in time' thing], & break the routine there. let your beau/gal be the one to call you instead of you calling; let them be the one to say the first word when you both wake up; let them be the one to suggest where to go for the date; let them be the first to text/call during the workday; let them be the one on top (ooh naughty!); etc. change what you normally do. it`ll bring a bit of spice & flavour to your relationship & definitely break any habits & lift you out of any ruts you`re in.
i swear i will have another post about relationships, because it is fun to go on & on about relationships...they can be a handful, but they`re usually worth it. anyone who agrees with me, say 'AYE!'
-JAE, sos
***
So the icing to this deelish moist medley are the mp3's (as promised above) I've been listening to :
Tv on the Radio - Dreams: I was really into Playhouse so I decided to listen in on more of their music.
Aqualung - Brighter than sunshine - Something to believe in: So yes I'm a little late in the game, only recently been introduced to aqualung but posting it up for all those who, like me live under a rock and haven't heard about him/them (truly not sure anymore with solo artist using band names, why? honestly just go under your own name... yes I'm talking to Jack's mannequin, The summer rocket, etc)
The Concretes - You can't hurry love: They kind of remind me of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but perhaps its just this song in particular.
The kooks - Too much of nothing - Naive: They're British, cute, and catchy. Nope, I can't ask for much more.
wishing you happy changes & many broken habits,

.Blogging Galore.
This is me, this yellow dress..... Ladies and gentlemen, at first it was not so appealing but I knew that it had to be tried on...and voila it was fantastic [with major convincing from steph] . So I had to purchase it, and guess what! it was a whopping $6.95 [amazing bargain ] . This is why Goodwill is one of the greatest stores ever [one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure] . The shoes are pretty old, it’s from Aldo, and no it was not a bargain. But see those fishnet stockings, they were also today’s purchase and it was 2 for $20 at the bay. I had to get it. Wake up one day and add fishnet stockings to your outfit...and tell me how sexy it makes you feel. I mean everyone is different and it is totally normal to not agree with me, but trust me when I wore them I felt like I was the queen of the world [it only lasted for 2 hours, then I took them off ] . I would love to totally go on with my fishnet stocking ranting but to relief you from the torture I shall move on to the more basic purpose on SOS.
[What’s my purpose on SOS] = I am the HOW – TO girl, you shall learn some very random but useful ways to make your life better [hopefully] . Get ready, next week I will share ways to kill zombies with you all and it will make your life much easier [when we will be under attack ofcourse] . Trust me, maybe not tonight, but later on.......
With mucho love
