I'm an adult now, I just speak honestly and express how I feel wholeheartedly with the people I'm with...Isn't that fucked up? Who have I become? Sammy from jersey shore (as if you wouldn't immediately associate 'Sammy', with the Jersey shores sweet heart?).

Woke up feeling worse than a hang over, I had to deal with the mess of purged emotion.

I'm going to have to blame Barney for putting so much importance on sharing emotions - should have watched more Sesame street. Maybe if we weren't set like time bombs to word vomit feelings, facebook would be bearable to look at... Maybe we should all become writers, Y'know, paper and pen writers. It's too easy to share emotion. If I want to hear about it, I'll pay for it.

It's really taking everything in me from adding an emoticon at the end of every sentence. Because of this, I’m announcing a comeback. See what I did there in the former line? Started off with my favorite "ice breaker" if you will. This usually gets you:

a) making out in under 5 minutes

b) stiffed with a number, but that's alright. You'll stiff her the second time around.

I have never gone wrong with this line. Under the right conditions it can do wonders. The right conditions being a place that is brimming with alcohol or any other intoxicating substance. i.e Bars, house parties, weddings.

In these scenarios you have a girl ripe with excuses to do something "bad" so the next day she can gawk to all her friends that "it was so unlike me" or "I was soooo drunk". And I know what you're thinking "Well if these ladies are so drunk/easy then no wonder the line works so well". Well this line is there for when you're tired of using 'Wanna fuck?'. Now hold your fucking thoughts for two seconds while I explain the beauty of this line.

Why it's so endearing, is this:
a) You get them thinking of making out
b) You're posing a question. Making them think you give a shit about what's coming out of her mouth. Therefore letting their guard down from your scummy tactics.

So I found myself reading a book review about A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy, by William B. Irvine. Reading the snippets is all I can afford to do, with my self diagnosed A.D.D. But since I hold myself at such a high esteem, I can pretty much say I've soaked up all the book had to offer and can confidently expand on the topic...

So Irvine talks about how stoicism is living the act of living life free of "anger, anxiety, fear, grief, and envy." by exercising the "paradoxical recipe for happiness," that includes the practice of "negative visualization." This is done by vividly imagining worst-case scenarios -- the death of a child, financial catastrophe, ruined health. For example, we imagine ourselves homeless - and instead of striving for an extravagant house, we learn to appreciate the house we currently reside in. Basically, we appreciate people/things more when we see that your time is fleeting with them/it. I find myself doing this all the time! But it goes 50/50, I relish the moments with person/thing but the other half of the time I'm hastily grieving about losing them/it...

I mean this way of thinking is great for movies, I come into them with low expectations that can only go higher, and get my moneys worth that way. But when this is put in terms of relationships, it's almost like 'what's the point in investing into this? It's only going to come to an end'. Or all together, one tends to bypass opportunities because the negative just outweighs your willingness to do anything... OR is that negativity just laziness? Or is it insecurity and fear of hurt masked as laziness? Maybe I should read the book...

1 - Rebound
This cannot be stated enough, rebound, rebound, rebound. Key in forgetting, lash out your emotional defects on some poor vulnerable shmuck and use them as your emotional tampon until you've completely forgotten about so-and-so. Drink or Toke it out, whatever works. This may aid in drowning out whatever your rebound is droning about, or your friends messages of intervention and worry about your 'self destruction'. The more time you spend passed out equates to less time thinking about the cunt that broke your heart.

3 - Flaunt
Don't be lame and Flaunt party pictures on Facebook, flaunt wisely. Get your friends to post the pictures and tag you. Be sneaky about how you get your Ex's attention, use alternative routes, like having his best friend know that you're looking great. If you have a hot rebound, don't be afraid to parade it.

As pathetic as this war has been, I'm glad to post that it's over, and we won. Fuck this trite "no one wins in war"-bullshit. A Side order of Style won, NOW SWALLOW.

CMOG surrendered at 8:25AM today. They did so unofficially through a post about their cat fetishes. As a tactical analyst, I can say they used that post as a suicide ploy to kill all remaining readers by way of deep coma and subsequently sleep apnea. Our research concludes that the post was equivalent to overdosing on about 5o over the counter sleeping pills.

On a more interesting note, I miss your mom jokes. I guess they stopped after enough people responded with "she's dead". They fucking ruined it for everyone... I remember the first time someone responded in that manner to me. It was in Grade 3 during recess, and I rebutted with: "well that doesn't mean it isn't true". That ass cunt of a child ran crying to the closest teacher and told on me. I wasn't there when he told on me (because I was running in the opposite direction) but I bet the teacher chuckled a bit - before having to chase me down. The lesson I learned that day: Deny everything, and milk being cute/ a girl for all its worth.

Some women come up with the most ridiculous questions. Sad to know men fall prey to these traps everyday...

In the legal system, the term for this would be entrapment. But for men, this is just everyday shit they have to deal with. How the hell can he say no? (well without having her hold her lady parts hostage from him, that is.) When all is said and done, the girl comes crying to her dearest friends about how he was such a dick for leading her on. And being that dearest friend, you want to tell her "well that's what you get, posing rejection proof questions". But since women just aren't built to take the blame, as a good friend you go ahead and blame the guy too. He didn't have a chance in hell.

"Do I look fat in this?"
Did you expect a truthful answer? I mean no matter what reality is, the answer is going to be no, followed by a "you look (insert ego boosting adjective here)". The worst part is when the woman follows it up with a self deprecating comment. I mean, Fuck off then, you got your heart set on an answer. Why are you setting the man up for failure? God, I hate that I'm grouped together with the likes of you.

Ha, it's like women love to put any relationship with the opposite sex in jeopardy. I mean guys go either way, butter a girl up and say "of course not I didn't even notice her". Or go the honest route and tell her yes. Either way, bredren been set up. I mean some guys might think "oh yeah, my girl is cool she just wanted to know." Well lets hope so, but as a girl with many girlfriends, I see what goes on behind the scenes. After you said yes to how hot the other girl was, she's rambling to all her friends about how you had the nerve, or with conspiracy theories of you cheating. How cool is she now? And if you said no, she feels she can't trust you, because you lied to her.

Moral of the story, to the women, stop setting him and yourself up with these questions. And If you insist on doing it, don't come crying to me, I absolve myself from any responsibility towards the matter. To the Guys, you're fucked.

I'm 20 and inherently self-destructive. Successfully killing my lungs, liver and kidneys - but that just isn't enough. For the past year or so, I've been on a mission to get in a physical confrontation. The big goal is to get a bond villain scar over the eye and down the cheek. Realistically, I'd settle for even a fat lip. It's unbelievably hard to get into a physical confrontation. In the process of me trying, I've made a total of 3 strangers cry and found myself in 2 random make-out sessions (proving that acts of sex can defuse any situation). I'm not building this year on bricks of disappointment. I'll leave that to the people responsible for making horrible (is there any other kind?) movie remakes, tofu, and the driving audience that keep real housewives of 'insert name of city here' on the air. Not making a resolution would lead one to the conclusion that I just made a resolution to forgo resolutions, which would leave one in the proverbial 'catch 22'. But like Bourne, I thought of that. This is the story of how I stole New years.

On the precipice of January 1st, 2010- I resolved to never use lyrics from a song to title my posts, work on my grammatical styling, and to cut down on the swearing. On January the 5th, I declared in a voice of great conviction: Fuck it. I'll keep to lacing my paragraph's with questionably placed commas, like how I'll keep lacing your brownies with ~~dank~~ love. So on this lovely Friday, Nasa has scheduled to crash a rocket into the moon. Yeah this is no joke, It's Science. They're hoping to figure out whether the moon has ice in its perpetually dark craters. Ok, don't spaz, the rocket isn't going to blow up the moon or anything. The rocket was made to mimic a natural asteriod that hits the moon on a reg. It'll leave a 2meter deep hole in an already swiss-cheese-like-moon.

Initially I was fine with this. These Nasa nerds have been itching to know whether the moon had water on it for ages, fair enough. But to spend 79 Million U.S Dollars for a fucking science experiment is just whack. I mean it's not even a cool science experiment, it's a 2 meter hole in the already shot up moon! To keep congruous with the previous post, I'm going to keep in spirit of reviewing and give you a review on mango mousse cake (specifically the one displayed in figure 1).

I've never had mango mousse cake before today. My relationship with the fruit and its other flavored subsidiaries have always been a love-love situation, no room in my heart to hate mangoes. This case was no different. Went ape shit over this cake. Freaking worth it. That's that.

note: We partook of this food from the Gods in the theatre-- btw watched Gamer, interesting stuff storyline/concepts, though I would've rather seen the storyline run in its own series for some further expansion. Not to mention Gerrard Butler being the boat of my dreams (see fig 2.), but I digress-- So, it was especially delicious after witnessing the movie attendants thwart others attempts to bring "outside food". We don't settle for this so-called popping corn in theaters.

Brand New can never do me wrong. Currently melting into their newest album, Daisy. Just came in the mail today and I'm FUCKING LOVING IT.

I'll admit, if you were one of those fans that couldn't deal with their departure from their former sound in The devil and God are raging inside me, then you're defintely going to show the same disdain for this album. But in all honesty, I love their reinvention. I mean I still enjoy the older albums, Deja Entendu and Your Favorite Weapon. But I severely admire the honesty and artistry that seeps through The devil and God are raging inside me and Daisy.

I guess to sum it all up (in a poorly descriptive, steph-fashion): Daisy is chock-full of hard vocals, distorted sounds, infectious hooks, and introspective lyrics. It just does it for me. I do wish that it was a bit longer, but I deal.

So I was reading up on some paper, by George Rigakos, concerning nightlife in the globally emerging 24hr city. Mr. Rigakos talks about the factors in clubs that drives club-goers to devour each other "as objects of aesthetic consumption".

He holds bad lighting, loud music and alcohol particularly responsible for the club goers reactions.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking, 'NO SHIT'. In which I reply, Fuck off, no need for this caps lock business and profanity. I'm going to expand upon his points anyway, cause everything sounds better coming from me, so deal.

So, where was I. Right - We start off with the terrible lighting , it masks the small imperfections, which aids in everyone looking that much better. A person you may not look twice at, is hidden in the dark and it's up to you to imagine how hot they are. The disorienting loud music allows for minimal vocal communication. So the aesthetically attractive piece that you've deemed fit, isn't tainted by personality or stupid opinion. The alcohol gives you the euphoric feel, causing you to think that you're having fun with whomever. A concoction made in heaven that gives you a blank canvas of a person to project your perfect fuck onto.

So yesterday I found myself talking to a very interesting fellow, as you may have picked up from the title. A comrade that had me questioning, what the fuck am I doing with my life? I mean I ask myself that question every morning, but after our talk the question just resounded even louder in me.

Here's how the story goes. When I normally go through the motions of getting to know a person I usually go through their favorite movies, bands, hobbies, etc. y'know to start the basis of small talk and stuff. I mean who doesn't? But this fellow claimed to rarely watch movies, listen to bands, and responded with "just living out " as his hobby. And after this, I was left in an awkward lurch. I mean movies and music = life, or so my facebook profile would say if I took the time to fill it out. He asked me what I did, I responded with the norm; going to concerts, watching movies, playing video games, going to art galleries. He really couldn't relate. This conversation was looking like the titanic, post iceberg, pre-rose-taking-up-the-whole-door-leading-to-dicaprio's-death, just a big shit fest with no happy ending in sight. I pose the question I made before hand again, but in more consise terms: "so what the fuck do you do with your time if you can't relate?"

In the most polite and genuine of ways, like only a true douche can respond, he explained that he enjoyed making music, movies, writing, and just being in the act of creating. He went on further on and explained that his big goal in life is to change the world for the better. And there and then I knew, I hated him. I mean, who did he think he was? ShaQ? I left him pretty much in disgust and longed for a good movie, to wash away the the naive optimistic thoughts of a young lad. Got home, fell asleep, and woke up wondering, when did I become so cynical? When did a little optomism give me the urge to scratch my eyeballs out? When did I stop 'doing things' and become a spectator? Is anyone still going on our blog?

So all those question led me here, posting something that really belongs in a diary or something, but no self respecting piece of paper would go for it. It would be a total waste of a tree.

For two weeks I was paid to take part in a guerrilla marketing promo set in the streets of downtown Toronto for Bit defender.
How it was suppose to go: At some busy intersection downtown a man holding a laptop would be stopped by a man in a hazmat suit via megaphone, being told his computer was infected with a virus. The gentleman holding the laptop anxiously frets out loud that all his movies, music and photo files are in this computer. That's when 2 other hazmat suits take his computer and "disinfect" it with silly string. Then cue the sigh of relief from the crowd , because THAT and only then is when they realize that it was all just a stunt and YES these folks are just actors and a virus had not really plagued the poor mans computer. The crowd cheers, we take pictures with the people that are interested to see later on Bit Defender live website and hand out flyers that everyone is too eager to recieve.

How it REALLY went down: People treated us like we had the plague. The leaflets being given out akin to us giving out AIDs. People taking pictures with us only after being bribed to give them a free 1 yr trial. Mac users cutting us down with mean words and giving the crowd the alternative of buying a Mac instead of buying Bitdefender for their PC. People staring us down because we were wearing plastic suits in 30 degree weather rather than for our performance.

Though, I'm not going to lie... I was the sub-rep, pretty much exempting me from the humiliation of wearing a hazmat suit for most of the two weeks, with the exception of a couple hours where one of my co-workers came in late, forcing me to suit up. and for those two hours, I WAS A LEPER. But don't worry, I got paid at the end of the week and I was left with our Ad-libed versions of the skit we were suppose to follow through with. No it wasn't part of the job, but we needed something to keep us sane. Our cool Skits vs. their Original skit

I know, I know, it's been forever since you've seen multiple outfit posts within the same month on SOS. However, I am finally the proud owner of a good camera, and the weather's finally good in Toronto. Unfortunately, we've been stuck in uncharacteristic, impossible, cold, transitional weather for the past couple months. However, except for a couple days of rain, the past week or two have been quite nice, which hopefully means that summer is finally starting!

To celebrate the lovely weather and my new camera, Steph and I took a stroll through her neighbourhood (otherwise known as on the way to the nearby bus stop) partially as a means of showing off the summer clothing sans sweaters and jackets that we can finally break out. It's also a test-run of my newly cut hair, self-trimmed for the first time.

A friend of ours recently embarked on a two-month long exchange in Europe, namely Russia and Siberia (yes, that's right, Siberia). Got the prank off Wired. Essentially you freeze some mentos in ice cubes, put it in your diet coke and once the mentos is exposed to the soft drink it will go off like your mom when she found out it was you that peed on the side of the house when you found it impossible to reach the bathroom in your inebriated state last night, hypothetically. But there is much skepticism about the prank working because of the degassing of the pop and the dissolving of cavities on the outer coating (the point of nucleation) on the mentos when it is put in the water. But if it does fail, one can garnish your friend's glass with a live hand grenade and see how that goes.

Wednesdays go POP! (and Pop Art too)

A couple weeks ago, Steph and I ventured to the AGO and Supermarket on a Wednesday night.

The AGO, as Steph mentioned before, is free Wednesday nights, and she once again took advantage of it. I, on the other hand, was venturing into the gallery as a first-timer. Unfortunately, pictures weren't allowed, and there were too many people to be stealth about it! The AGO experience was fun, but I had been to a really awesome modern art gallery in Los Angelos a few years back, and unfortunately all my art experiences there after are being compared to it. Although, I did see my first Warhol in person, and let me tell you, I was totally obsessed with him in highschool.

We then headed to the Kensington Market area, which I've always loved. It's got a really chill, cool vibe to it. I had heard about Supermarket a few months back, whilst searching for a place to celebrate my birthday in February. It lost by a couple points to Insomnia, which proved pretty good as well.

Supermarket is a restaurant-bar with live music, specializing in Asian-inspired finger foods. We decided to go on that particular night because Wednesdays are "Wednesdays go POP!" night, so for a 'pay-what-you-can' cover, we'd be treated to a show of new and independent bands.

Interestingly enough, of the bands playing that night were Stereos, a Much Music founded band that have just begun getting radio play. Steph and I agreed that their sound is reminiscent of Motion City Soundtrack and the like, meaning they'll do well in the mainstream. It really did feel like we were seeing that kind of band before they hit it big at all, so it was kinda cool. They did really well at making their sound feel "big".

Also on the list were Eve and the Ocean and Decade of Sleep. Decade of Sleep weren't really to Steph and my taste, but their cover of The Beatles' 'I Am the Walrus' was quite enjoyable. Eve and the Ocean, aka Tia Brazda, has a really nice, sweet sound. She reminds me a little bit of Lights, but with lyrics and a voice that's more genuine. You could really see the emotion in her performance, my favourite song being 'Femme Fatale' - definitely check out her Myspace!

Another thing about Supermarket - the food! The service was great, but Steph and I weren't very smart and didn't realize that the portions weren't 'dim sum' sized. This meant that we somehow managed to order enough food for four people. Granted, the food was good, it was just laughable that they couldn't fit all the dishes on our table when no one else was eating!

Overall, fun night. Art, music, and good food!

Plastic Skyline: Interviewing Dani

You may remember the feature I did on Plastic Skyline a few months back. If not, it is an online vintage store run by a couple incredibly talented girls who just happen to be seventeen. In my opinion, since I had last mentioned it, it's definitely exploded. They have a new website, a new look, and a whole new outlook. You may recognize the twins from Lookbook's hot page, or have already visited the store (and if not, you definitely should!).

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of eating waffles with Dani, of the Plastic Skyline duo, and doing an interview with her.

I'm interviewing you for A Side Order of Style about your online boutique Plastic Skyline. Tell me about it.

Basically Plastic Skyline is an online shop dedicated to vintage and secondhand wear. I guess the target market is to the young fashionable woman. It's run by me and my twin, Bianca Venerayan, and was started in September of 2008.

At the moment, we are in the process of our grand opening of our new site "plasticskyline.com."

Why did you decide to start Plastic Skyline?

To be honest, it was entirely because we needed the money - we were broke! - and we thought that opening a shop would be a good way to get involved in the fashion industry.

Have people been following up and become really interested in Plastic Skyline? Has it become more than a money-making tool?

Yeah, at the beginning, we weren't that successful, but I guess that as time has gone on, a lot more people have learned about PS through careful advertisement on Lookbook.nu.

At the beginning, it was a bit of a rocky start, but as time went on, it's definitely more than just aa job. It's more of a hobby, like something we enjoy doing.

Do you think you see yourself continuing to do this into the future?

I definitely think that we'll be continuing the business at least another year or two. It's a good way to pass the time, but also, we've learned a lot of things. Like we've improved our sewing skills, web design skills, etcetera.

Are you looking to get into this industry yourself as a future career, or is it just going to stay a side past-time?

I'm not really sure. I'm considering going to Ryerson for Fashion Communications [in Toronto] next year, but if I don't end up going, I probably won't end up pursuing a career in fashion. Probably more along the lines of illustration or graphic design. [Since the time of the interview, Dani has chosen to attend Ryerson University.]

Is all the illustration and graphic design on the website done by you?

That is correct!

Have you always been interested in clothes, fashion and shopping?

Yeah, from a young age, I would always go shopping with my parents on the weekend, and I guess it's become second nature to shop and be a bargain hunter, thrift, etcetera.

So you've found most of the things you're selling at thrift stores and bargain-hunting?

Yeah, pretty much. We basically look for interesting pieces that we think our consumer might be interested in. And in the case of our "Remix" section, we take extravagant vintage pieces and re-construct them to make them more marketable.

Tell me about the "Yours Truly" line. That's new, right?

Yeah, that's a brand new section, or collection I guess from the old Plastic Skyline. At first, we wanted to stick to a specific colour scheme - it was navy, cream, peach - like really girlie, whimsical colours. As time went on, we decided to just go with it. We're not really inspired by anything I guess - whatever we think looks pretty and whatever is fairly challenging, but not too time-consuming.

Do you have any favourite designers yourself?

Yes. I am a big Marc Jacobs fan, but as far as Plastic Skyline goes, I would say our biggest inspirations for the "Yours Truly" line come from Betsey Johnson, Miu Miu, basically anything that has volume and a touch of girliness, but also something stylish, modern, and wearable.

Do you own any Miu Miu or Betsey yourself, or is it just an inspiration-type-thing?

I personally don't own anything from Betsey Johnson, Miu Miu, or any designer for that matter, but I would like to! [laughs]

And what is your favourite fashion item you currently oin your closet that you're not selling?

Oh that's a hard question...I don't think I can pick one thing that I love the most, but I do have a few things that I consider basics.

Okay, what do you think are a few basics that every girl should have?

Black tights, a good pair of heels, a nice roomy bag, and cardigans - slouchy cardigans. And a pencil skirt.

And where is your pencil skirt from?

H&M, it was on sale for $5. In New York.

And that's is why she has a store! Okay, last question - how did you come up with the name "Plastic Skyline"?

This is a funny story. Basically, me and Bianca were on MSN one night near the beginnning stages of planning. We were like, "Okay, we need to pick a name." So we wanted to pick something that was kind of relevant to our vintage concept. We were picking words like 'retrospect' and lame words like that. But after like 20 minutes we couldn't decide, so we went to band name generator website and started typing in random words. Once again, like 'retrospect', thinking something interseting would pop up. But, no. So Bianca was like, "Whatever, I'm just going to type in random words". Yesterday nat attack, our friend Anna and I ventured out to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) for the first time. Once we entered we were totally blown away by the overall beauty... of the guys that were there. I mean sure the art work was beautiful and what not, but the phenomena of freaking gorgeous guys left, right, and center, is just something worth mentioning. AND the real beauty here is that you don't have to be caking it like betty crocker to enjoy the luxuries of such wonderful eye candy because the AGO is free after 6 on Wednesdays. I mean WHO KNEW? Seriously who ever withheld the info on the whereabouts of such massive amounts of hot fellas should suffer for the sin of hording them all.

Bringing back the mix Monday because I can. And just like the first mix monday on a side order of style, it's all about the guilty pleasures.

Megan Fox: A lot of people hate on this bitch. Which is totally understandable because her acting is pretty blasé and she just gushes with annoying whenever she opens her masticating sphincter. But I love how she photographs... kind of as simple as that.

Empty Train cars: Hardly happens but when I find myself in one I never let it go to waste. I go all out, singing, pole dancing, hell once I stole an ad just because I could.

Taylor Kitsh: Watched X men origins: Wolverine. A lot of people hate it, especially with the fuck up that is Gambit in that movie. But I mean you don't have to be the amazing kreskin to see this coming. If you've seen the 3 other xmen movies with characters stories being messed up what would make you think they'd stop to make it all right with Gambits character? So when I watched the movie, I totally mellowed out to the hotness that is Taylor kitsh (and topless hugh jackmen) to make the experience just that more bearable.

Filipino Soaps (aka Telanovelas): Currently jobless = lot of time on my hands. So i've been really into these filipino dramas, and I mean this is really bad. I totally would make fun of my mom for watching this since like half of the episode consists of a recap of all the previous episodes and whats going to happen in future ones. Not to mention the really bad fight scenes where the lead characters fist lands no where near the oponents face and yet he's found unconscious in the hospital for a month.

Leighton Meester: I hate when actors think they're singers and vise versa. With Leighton Meester being the exception , loving her in Gossip girl and her music. I'm totally reaching right now and have no clue who else I approve of doing both... except some of my filipino telenovela soap stars.

I have had an experience similar to what most religious groups call enlightenment. It started during a very cloudy dark day, as i was walking back from a long day of........okay NOT....actually no where close. So the actual story goes with me reading this article on my laptop and out of no where i stumbled on these gorgeous purses and what not....and as usual they are beyond the price range of my affordability....but WAIT.....they are not for purchase....these purses are from this website that allows an individual to RENT it out....obviously you have to link in your credit card digits...and then you either become a member or remain a guest...but anyway...you can rent out your favourite EXPENSIVE/FLASHY blingging purses...and wait there is more....sunglasses, jewelry, watches and all other little things. Its either montly rentals or weekly, depending on how much you want to change around your purse and lets say you fall in love with a purse...you can 'steal' it...not literally but like purchase it. I am going to give it a try, i was too excited so had to share.

After months of telling people, "I'm going to cut my hair...short!" I finally summoned the courage to do it this weekend. Upon texting Steph the news, she immediately responded with, "BLOG ABOUT IT!"

Before: Long hair with grown-out-used-to-be-awesome-faded peekabo highlights.

For Torontonians, I had the cut done at Civello, right by the MTV building north of Bloor. It was actually my first time there, which was risky considering how nervous I was about losing my long hair. But, my stylist, Carmelo, was really awesome. I put pictures on my iPod to show him the cut I wanted (pictured below) and it turned out really good. With the haircut also came a scalp massage and a little bit of makeup application, which was fun. The atmosphere of Civello was really fun and laidback - I'm definitely going back, despite it being a tad pricey.

I chose the Katie Holmes bob because a) it looks awesome on her and b) it totally made her look like she grew up some. And as you can from the picture above, I kind of have a baby face...

Surprisingly, I really liked it right away. It's a little different than Katie's, but mostly because my hair's so thick, and I have a lot more of it than her. I think I look more my age - with the cut, I don't think I'd be so easily mistaken for a fourteen year old. Short hair, as I realized today, is much easier to look more polished with, outfit-wise. However, I'll miss my long, pretty hair too...especially curling it.

I think my next cut will be even shorter!

Old news, but a new album is coming out soon. I chanced upon them once again while my iTunes was on shuffle and remembered how much I loved them two or three years ago (I don't remember anymore!). Steph & I were lucky enough to happen upon them when they were simply a Myspace band.

The new album is entitled "here, here, and here" and out later this month. Personally, I think the new stuff from what I've heard listens a little more "Paramore" than what I'm used to from them. But, I'm liking it a little more than I did when I first heard it, which is a plus.

Fantasies...another Metric-centric post

My beloved Metric, as fans already know, is releasing their fourth album, Fantasies, on April 14th, but, it leaked a couple weeks ago. I've been playing it straight since last weekend (and very intently might I add).

Frontrunner of the band, goddess Emily Haines wrote parts of it whilst exiled in Argentina, and well, the album seems to be a little more introspective in terms of writing. It took four years to create, but the results seem to show the time it took. It think it's definitely a more mature album, with most songs being a little more mellow.

The approach the band took was to preview the album sort of "campfire style," playing songs as they were still being refined. For me, this wasn't the best decision because it causes fans to expect the best possible version of the songs they've already heard and learned to love. I think this is especially true with the song "Gimme Sympathy." I loved it when I first heard it, but I'm not quite so in love with the album version. But, that's okay.

When it comes down to it, the songs I'm currently most into are the ones I hadn't before. I don't want to contribute to leaking the whole album, so I offer one of my favourites:

Metric - Gold Guns Girls

I think it's one of the more fun songs on the album, and it's just damn catchy! And deefinitely make sure to drop by the official site to pick up a free download of an acoustic "Help I'm Alive."

Transitional Weather...

It's that time of year. Nope, not Christmas. Something far less friendly and heart-warming - the season of transitional weather. You know, that not-so-nice time in the spring where it's still heavily raining - or worse, lightly snowing, and it's not quite warm enough. Living in a part of the world experiencing all four seasons comes with a cost. Although I'm loving the sunshine we're getting, as soon as I step outside, I always seem to be hit with an "Oh, right, summer's still a while away."

I always forget how much I struggle with my outfit choices - it's still too cold to go bare-legged, too and well, I'm not a girl to throw on jeans. What makes it even more difficult is that store windows are filled with pretty little things for summer - all the fantastic sandals and summer dresses are incredibly tempting, but then I remember that I can't wear any of it for another two months.. For me though, the biggest struggle is footwear.

What are transitional weather shoes?!

I suppose the point of writing this is to beg for any advice - what can I wear on my feet with a dress and tights? I feel like flats and sneakers are jeans-wear items, so I'm stuck. I would wear heels daily, but I'd kind of like to pick up an easier look so I don't look quite as overdressed on a daily basis. Is spring jeans-wearing weather? Is it time for me to brave the cold air on my feet with tights and flats?

Twilight AND NYLON, ugh.

So I've covered both NYLON's transformation and Twilight lately...and here they are, together.

My only wish? That I hadn't subscribed to NYLON after all.

From the cover alone, I'm disappointed. I wasn't a fan of the last issue, but with this cover, it looks like NYLON's trying to be Teen Vogue or something. It's just seems to have lost its edge. Perhaps my expectations for the magazine been too high, but, this just doesn't look like what NYLON should be to me.

Admittedly, the design is good and clean, but it just doesn't seem to be what would appeal to NYLON's readers. Maybe it's just me, but although the summer-y colour palette is appealing, it lack a sense of edginess. Even the way Kristen's hair is laid on top of the NYLON masthead doesn't work - it just makes it look fake...it's just seems done wrong. And the wardrobe styling? Maybe I'm behind on the trends or something, but I'm just not feeling it...

The article covering Kristen, "uncensored" reads:

On the Twilight Madness: “Anywhere we’d go for Twilight was a psychotic situation. Are you kidding? I feel like this girl, although she can be pretty at times, just needs to get over herself. I'm not a Twilight fan, but as the lead actress in a very popular movie, shouldn't she at least humour her audience? Maybe she's not a fan of the series herself or something, but I'm sure it's part of her job description to pretend like she is...at least until she's done with the series.

On the cover, it quotes her saying, "Nobody should every put what I say in a magazine." I'm sure she means it to be witty and badass...but it is true, if only for her own sake. Much better to be quiet and mysterious than to say things that make you come off as incredibly unprofessional.

Feature articles from NYLON used to make me like the actress/singer a little more, or at least spark some interest, but this is just making me go, "Please, stop."

NYLON, please stop. MAYBE I'm being a tad harsh? I haven't actually received the issue, so maybe the rest of it will be redeeming. Here's hoping...

NYLON...

I was incredibly excited Monday night to find my first issue from my NYLON magazine subscription in my mailbox. I haven't actually purchased a copy in awhile, so I was definitely looking forward to cracking it open. I've been a longtime lover of NYLON, especially for it's fun design sensibility and use of hand-drawn elements in typography and illustrations, as well as the cut-and-paste look of various collage pieces.

Upon reading the Letter from the Editor in the current issue, I found that NYLON had a new art director - Michael Pangilinan, someone who had been on the design team when it was redesigned in 2003. I was immediately curious. His last name is Filipino and is the same as someone I know, yes, but also because I've always loved NYLON's design. You might even say it's the magazine that's been pushing me to want to get into magazine editorial design myself. So, as a result, I had this crazy idea that NYLON was pushing it to the next level...or something along those lines.

Well, sadly, I was disappointed with this issue of NYLON. Yes, I've been tired of it's design here and there in the past, but for me, with this one, nothing popped. For a magazine that I occasionally picked up just to look through for it's design, it just wasn't fun anymore. Although still well-designed, in my opinion, it's no longer as distinct. I'm not even going to get started on the content, because to be honest, I just haven't been motivated to read much of it yet. We'll see how that goes.

Relishing in disappointment, I googled the new art director. His work is actually pretty awesome. Check it out for yourself. Make sure to savour the classic NYLON layouts. The rest of his design work isn't bad either, and some of it actually seems to resemble the aesthetic of my particular program, which I found quite interesting.

So, I'm hoping that it's just a first issue thing and he'll come back into something more original with the next one. What do you guys think of NYLON, past and present?

verdict on the movie: Watch it.
People have been going on and on about how it isn't the same or as good as snatch but they can shove it. It's a whole lot better than the crap showing in theaters or coming out on dvd. The title is Rock n Rolla not Snatch 2, take the movie as it is, entertaining.

So yesterday as i was watching gossip girl online, (aka i am a loser since i am too busy to actually watch it on tv and too cheap to rent it) anyway back to story, i was letting the episode load and i was doing a tiny research on the characters....and guess what i found out?!?!?!

I know this just proves how much of a girlie girl I am, but I can't deny that I'm intrigued. Disney's coming out with a new hand-drawn princess film later this year, and just hearing about it got me excited. It's a musical, of course, and is set in 1920's New Orleans so it might be interesting to see Disney music take on a more jazz feel. I'm choosing to ignore the hype/bashing for the film being called "the first black Disney princess"because well, I just miss "classic" Disney. I sure hope this one pulls through and impresses...

I'm so sad I don't live in the States. First, I miss all the real excitement of the election, and now, awesome designer digs at Target?

Basically, Alexander McQueen in collaborating with Target, much like Converse did (my basic Chucks came from Target, I'm not ashamed).

"The result is very funky rock’n’roll pieces which include studded jeans, and leather vests with a touch of menswear. The wow factor of the collaboration? Dresses! They are signature McQueen with clean and sharp lines."

...I'm all for that! The collection, called "McQ" debuts March 1st and is supposed to range from $30 to $50 - tres exciting. Now I need to find a reason to travel State-side and visit a Target...

I recently found out that I own a Miu Miu knockoff bag - the Coffer. I loved my bag before I realized it's origins, and my appreciation for it has only grew. Interestingly enough, if I had seen it on the arm of the likes of Mischa Barton before actually buying the bag, I don't think I would've been intrigued by the celebrity favourite.

Really, I just picked it up on impulse because I had decided the day before that I wanted a new bag, and the store I bought it at had a "Buy One Get One Free" deal. So a friend and I both got a Coffer replica.

And then, I saw the bag in another store's window last week. I thought it was strange that these stores would imitate each other, or that they had the same manufacturer. But after asking around, I found out that it wasn't just any bag design. Somehow, I appreciate my lovely impulse buy even more now.

Here's to dishing out less than $30 on a bag that could've run me upwards of $1000!

So I was looking through old files in my computer and I came across some old photos from my extreme tobogganing days. So extreme a sport it had to be done with a support team. We were THE HIGHLIGHTERS. As you can tell from our costumes we were all business. So business like, we took a trip to Pickering Ontario to do our promo pics. Never released till now. That's right! an aSOS exclusive. In yellow the stunt kid Kathleen, In pink the crazy crusader Jenn, Leaving me in green.

Some may wonder what a person may be playing in their mp3 player while extreme tobogganing. WELL FAIL, A real extreme tobogganing venture would take all of the tobogganers senses to concentrate on the task at hand. Would you expect pilots to listen to music while flying? Of course not, lives are at stake. But If I were to have music on the hill I'd def have some of these songs on heavy rotation:

As I am back at school, I figured it would be fitting to start a new feature at the blog - semi-regularly blogging about artists and designers I think people should know about. Being a design student, I thought it would be fitting anyway.

To start off, I thought it necessary to pay tribute to the incredible Nicole Johnston of Kill Margot. She's no Andy Warhol (yet), but Steph and I both adore her.

I'm really a fan of how she represents women, especially in a society where depictions of women are most commonly objectifying. Nicole aims to depict women in a way that is not objectifying, and instead, her depictions are often awkward or somewhat unflattering representations of people she knows and finds beautiful. Pretty much, she does a fantastic job of making beauty strange instead of making it sexy. I especially like her collage and mixed media work. And come to think of it, it must be pretty cool to be a talented, recently out-of-college artist and be a big part of a pretty cool "indie" scene, with people who frequent your website and look out for your art.

Oh, and her wit (evident in her art and throughout her website) is awesome to boot.

I haven't posted anything in ages upon ages, for which I apologize. But I'm sure, dear blogworld that you've been quite content with our fantastic guest posts from the CMOG guys, right? Oh, and Steph's recounts of various concert experiences. My absence can really only be blamed on not being able to measure up, especially with Steph's recollection of the absolutely amazing Metric concert experience. Surreal, for serious.

Anyhow, I've been spending my non-blogging time working my ass off and perusing through the ever-addictive Lookbook.nu. So uh, feel free to check out my Lookbook!

As proof, a combination of my latest past-times:

I'm far too dressed up for my minimum wage retail job. As you can see also, I tried the ripped tights look. I'm liking it, except you can't see the way-too-big rip at the back of my leg which was supposed to be the finishing touch, but turned out to kill the tights. Oh well, I'll attempt it again another time.

Oh yeah, and after working 9 to 5ish shifts, I've habitually been trekking downtown to finish Christmas shopping. Can you believe it's over already?

It's not like I need a lot of persuasion to go see X-Men Origins: Wolverine, coming out may 1st 2009, with Hugh Jackman alone I'm already sold. But when I finally saw the trailer and realised Taylor Kitsch from FNL and the covanent was playing gambit... I swear I peed myself in excitement and watched covenent for the first time just to indulge in Taylor's sexy. All true, except the peeing myself bit. Just had to share that tid bit of info and profess my love for this boy.

However steph’s internet presence is too much to handle, and she managed to win. I guess I had a good run. So I have to make a fashion post. I’m a bit new to this so tell me if I’m doing this right. I didn’t bother with shoes because I wouldn’t be able to live up to Jamesforlife, so he wins that battle. Not to mention that I am a samurai so shoes are optional for me anyway.

New era x Sneaker Pimps Sneaker Pimps is a world wide sneaker tour where hundreds of rare shoes are carted around and put on display, there are also live graffiti artists doing their thing and live music performances. I got this hat from Sneaker Pimps in 2006 I think

Silly Thing x Supreme x Undercover x Futra This is probably the coolest shirt I have. It's from an art show in Hong Kong featuring one of my favorite graffiti artists named FUTURA 2000. The event was called Event Horizon and the shirt was not sold outside of this even..but I got the hookups

Warhol Factory x Levis Not much to say about these..I didn't even know Andy Warhol made Levis..but I found these and they are probably my second favorite pair of jeans

Ben Drury x Nike Air Max 87 The pirate radio station scene in London is HUGE and it features some of the best upcoming artists out there. Ben Drury is a DJ for a pirate radio station in London and he was given the opportunity to be a part of a Nike shoe pack called Air You Breathe. I also have the matching jacket and bag for this shoe, I'd show you more details on the shoe (insole art is pretty sweet on these) but I don't want totake up all your time. I will say the quality and materials on this shoe are FANTASTIC..3M mudguard, soft leather, pebbled leather swoosh *drools*

So I was getting on with a stunning coworker of mine really well today, till I lied, which led to a long sequence of lies. I feigned knowledge in a field I had no business faking pundit status in. Then when I got home and wiki-ed the shit I was talking in such great detail about, I realized that I truly was stuck waste deep in it. Based on that, I decided on making a list of things that YOU can do to get in a similar Cluster F*ck situation:

(1) Talk about subjects you know nothing about, be very specific and detailed in these lies. Being general will give you more leeway for exoneration, this wont help in achieving the same situation though... that is why it's important to keep very detailed.

(2) When they argue that you're wrong, ignore them. Back yourself up with fake scenarios that "happened" in your life to enforce that you are right, since you have first hand experience, act like their argument is flaky and stupid.

2 easy steps to look like a complete and utterly incompetent fool. You can hybridize it and make it one easy step, but then it just wouldn't be a list. And I love lists...
